There's never a day that goes by without great entertainment from Trump. I see he claimed yet again that Kamala Harris never worked at a McDonald’s. It's kind of ridiculous that he is asking to see proof of that employment from long ago. This isn’t the kind of thing someone would lie about. It’s not like sex with a porn star while your wife is pregnant.

These words are emotive, not emotional. Emotion is a feeling. Words themselves cannot have feelings but they can invoke feelings, hence they are emotive.

What a shame that this is no being described for what it is 'smear tactics' instead we call it typical for the post truth era.
Best being part of this forum by placing the intellectual challenged on foes list. A lot less post to read and a great time saver.

I, too, hate this era of prevarication when there are much simpler, exact and accurate ways to describe things. As George Carlin famously put it, words that hide the truth. "Americans have trouble dealing with reality."

Shell shock --> Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Poor people --> Economically disadvantaged
Slum --> Substandard housing
Fired --> Made rendundant
Crippled --> Handicapped --> Differently abled
Deaf --> Hearing impaired
Blind --> Visually impaired
Old people --> Senior citizens
Die --> Pass away

And, most relevant to this thread . . . .
Illegal aliens --> Undocumented immigrants.

This will be unpopular but the last example is linguistically flawed regardless of how one views the issue. No other law-breakers are referred to as illegal. If you murder someone, you are not referred to as an illegal killer. People are not illegal, their crimes are illegal. If you overstay in Thailand, you are staying here illegally.

I realize this makes linguists WOKE by default, but I don't think they care.

No. The difference is that a murderer isn't guilty until found so by a court. An alien's presence in the U.S., by itself, is illegal if s/he does not have permission to be there. His/her status as an alien in the U.S. is illegal. If the alien has entered the country legally, s/he is a legal alien.

The alien's crime is entering, and then remaining, in the U.S. It's his/her continued presence that is illegal.

Agreed, when referring to their status.
