Lake Nong Bua

Post by michaleo » April 5, 2010, 11:26 am

BobHelm wrote:Nong Bua is probably my favourite of the 3 parks - although it is a bit like a building site at the moment. It is, to my mind, the most beautiful of the parks. It seems to me that a great deal of thought has gone into making the view from any part of the park to be as attractive as possible. It will be interesting to see what the new changes will bring to the park as well. It has probably the best selection of children climbing toys available. that part of the park can get very busy early evening. The walking track is pleasant, with a few meters of different walks available, although the overall distance is about 2/3rds. of the Prajak walk.
According to these words I went to have a look at nong bua these days. Unfortunately it was a very hot day last thursday, but I went in spite of it.

The lake is nice and the authorities look to make it quite sweet.

Image

Except an elderly lady I didn't meet anybody. She sold a bottle of water and wanted to know all about me.

Image

Normally everyone has any child in the family that would be good to be married to an alien. Perhaps she has several.

As Bob wrote it would be nice to go with the children, as there are some toys over there tp play with.

Image

When I see palmtrees I allways get a bit bored, bedause it reminds me of the cote d'azur or the ligurian coast - even I like both.

Image

As it was so exceptionally hot I couln't walk around the lake. But I took a picture from the other side.

Image

I am sure the lake is fine on a saturday afternoon or a sunday, if it is not so hot and when a lot of people walk around.

Image

But after this walk I were really thirsty and drank a lot of water.
I were not the only one.

Hi Michaleo
Thanks for the pics mate looks good ,just makes me wanna get to me retirement in Udon that bit quicker ,, I have only ever been there a couple of years ago in the pickup ,, it was hot then funnily enuf ( it gets like that in Thai sometimes ) and we sat in the car park eating a takeaway somtum and gai yang waitng for my time to go to the airport .
On another note as one of my hobbies is painting I am gonna see if I can do something with pic no.6 in this set , this kinda view with the buildings and reflections allways attracts the paint to the brushes for me .
However at the moment one of the other hobbies is crying out ,,,the veg garden , and the wife also wants some diy done indoors before I go back to work tommorow , so will have to wait for another day .
Cheers for now

You are certainly a braver man than I to attempt a stroll around the park in the day at this time of year michaleo :D
It has been a month since I have been & will probably be another month before I try again - unless we get a good downpour before to cool it down.
Nice pictures & give a fair idea of what the park is about, I hope it is enough to encourage others to go & have a pleasant evening promenade!! :D

A walk round Nong Bua is a short stroll. The distance round the Park is marked on the pavement. Maybe Bob can remember how far it is?
Trying playing 18 holes of golf in this heat. Approx 6-7K metres.

Your testing my memory here Galee.
Prajak is just over the 3.1 KM I think & Nong Bua is 1.8 to 2.0 KMs & Sim about the 2.3KM.
As for 18 holes of golf being 7KM, I think that is as the crow files, the only couple of times I have tried it was nearer 15... :D :D

We are living quite close by, and are often there in the evening with the children. Once the sun sets and the worst heat is over, the park is always quite crowded and our children enjoy the playground. You can hire a boat, and peddle across the lake, which is very nice also when the weather isn't too hot. Over the past years the park has been improved a lot, when we started living in that area there was absolutely nothing, just a lot of mud, now it's really a nice place.

I appreciate Nong Bua Lake, not far from my gaff, best for a stroll when the sun is low and the heat is dying down.
Very pleasent. Nong Lek up the road for a spot of lunch.

If it was in South London, there would be a shopping trolley poking out of the water, the local council would have chained up the boats, and banned their use, due to health and safety grounds. The childrens playground would have been vandalized, and covered in graffiti tags.

I love Nong Bua!

I don't understand why there isn't a small farang bar/restaurant there that also appeals to Thai wives and other locals.

Take care, because when I said to the samlo-driver "nong bua" (I didn't say "lake" as I didn't thought that he speaks english) he brought me to a district with the same name just on the other side of the main road. There was any school or something like that and he thought I wanted to go there.

I didn't mind as I am allways curious and happy when I can take any picture of general interest.

So when I asked for the lake to a thai lady who was standing around she told me that she lives in Australia and works as croupier in a casino, and that she is a fan of Roger Federer and want to visit Basel, as he is originally from there. Sometimes it is funny to ask for the way.

Thanks. I have driven through that slice of Phosi road many, many times without knowing that.
By the way, a huge, yes a huge park is in the early stage of construction beyond the west side of the Ring Road in the Nong Song Rom and the Mumon village area.

well Ray, thats why Udonmap has maps! i found Nong bua lake first day i arrived, using the map. it was a pleasant surprise to find such a beautiful, and usually very quiet, park. i knew from that minute that Udon would be home. So far, thats not changed (p.s. i marry in june, will be moving in November). Maybe bridge might be possible then!

Yes, moving in november. Cannot say that i would be good at bridge lessons, as i have not played for 15 years, but remember the basics. just a good way to pass the time and a little bit of skill needed, so more interesting than other card games.

Lake Nong Bua is my favorite walk in town also.
It is attractive any time of day.
Almost always quiet.
Evenings can get a little busy but everyone is always pleasant.
A fine example of "The Real Thailand".

Check out Nong Sai if you want to see the smallest of the lakes in Udon!
