I had a friend who was totally negative. I told him that if he hated Thailand so much there are other countries to try. He moved to Cambodia and was back in Thailand in less than a year. He said that Cambodia was worse than Thailand ...
Can you recall what his problems with Cambodia were?

Sateeb the usual arrogant attitude, I failed this I failed that I was making 8-9 k for a 2 hour stint. The only reason I failed was the g/f at the time was lazy and wanted to sit outside with the other losers wanting to live off there falang rich b/fs. I had at least cornered a market and had a go. Why do still harp on about something that happened nearly 10 years on ?? Is that the best you can do ?? I suggest you get out more and socialise, oh you haven't got any social friends that you can call on. Do you smoke ?? Guess not so what exactly do you do all day in your little bubble, sit on your arse all day.
I "harp on" to reply to your harping on. You just don't seem to get it. Some make a life here and love it and some don't.

You don't live here; you're a tourist. You trawl the bars and drop your strides for a few weeks per year then go on about Thailand like some Poundland Alan Whicker. The reality is you know sod all.

You got rinsed by an Isaan girl that was smarter than you and played you like a banjo... Get over it.

The corruption was his biggest issue. He had to pay different government officials for his visa and still didn't know for sure if it was legal.

He also suffered from the heat in his shoe box sized apartment because the electricity was off so often. No electric, no air con.

Actually I don't remember a single good thing that he liked. Of course you had to know him. He never had anything good to say about Thailand either. Some guys are like that but continue to stay here without trying anywhere else.

So here you are, taking down a fellow member who you appear to know personally but you disagree with? I don't know vlad or Sateeb from Adam but vlad is the one dragging up the history of failed farang enterprises in Udon and playing the keyboard warrior.

And you are also the one who's bringing up some inference to Ernest's posting 'history'. I think I can spot a lonely, cranky, social misfit when I read some posts and it isn't Sateeb or Earnest. Or Niggly.

Anyway, you have flounced away before you could answer why you would want to start this thread on this particular subject matter? vince had already started one 5 days earlier than this littany of acrimony and self-loathing and it's much more balanced and reasoned... but you haven't posted there yet.

Or maybe you did and that's why some posts were removed by the mods?

Having a desire to live in Thailand is a state of mind that an individual arrives at in their own place in time. I was told by individual years ago on this forum several years before my wife and I left the U.S. that Living in Thailand is not for everybody. As a matter of fact, it is not for most. No matter where you decide to live you will have regrets. The regrets you decide to live with is your decision. Some individuals never get to that point of having a desire to live in Thailand or do not have any desire to reach that point. My wife and I miss our kids and grandchildren back in the U.S. very much. I truly believe it is an issue of the heart. Issues of the heart go with you no matter where you go, issues of the heart go with you. You are not going to escape the issues of the heart. You need to deal with those issues of the heart and make a decision to bury them in the depths of the sea and not to let them harass you anymore. It took me several years of living in Thailand to arrive at that point. Others may have not taken so long. My wife and I lived in the U.S. for 40 years. Both of us are still acclimating. I was a miserable person early on because I harbored unmet expectations. I realized that you need to be aware of what or who you are listening to and what you are taking into your heart. Be aware of, where are your thoughts? I do have my days when I just feel like ranting but those days are getting fewer.

It's true heaven for me and there's nowhere on earth like it.i dont know what all the fuss is about,I should of been born here.i thought about living in another country but no way, this is the dream I've lived for.

Vietnam 30 day rule for tourist/retiree visas, but with a twist of a possibility of an in-Country visa extensions x 2, up to say 90 days.

Sounds similar to what Thailand has in place

That video being two months old probably wasn't factoring in any impact of the epidemic on any, actual Vietnam visa rule changes. It's the first I have heard of concerns about visa abuse from Vietnam immigration but it was only a matter of time really.

Plenty of Thailand 'long timers' worried that their existing stays based on an easily acquired, regionally issued Non-O's may not be an option come renewal time.

Yes, I suspect so.

I suspect the procedure for getting the Visa extensions and 90 Day reporting will remain much as they were, especially once a Vaccine turns up in say the next 12 months (hopefully), but the T G will introduce some add on conditions to the Extension Renewal, namely mandatory Insurance for Long Stayers. Its just a sign of the times for the future.

Mandatory Medical Insurance if it comes in after Covid 19, will will probably be the biggest concern to those elderly Farang's or those on Fixed Pensions, particularly if the T G imposes this additional requirement (on top of money in the bank or pension Threshold), on or for All Long Stay (O and O-A) and Retirements type visas when you go to extend

The Insurance Companies seem to work in 5 years age blocks, 61-65, then 66-70, then 71-75 for calculations of Premiums purpose.

If you want to go above the current suggested TB 400,000 Max Cover Per Year figure (just incase the T G decides to increase it, over time), and you are,

66 Years old you can get Med Ins to cover you in Thailand with a Max Annual Limit (Inpatient Benefits with Emergency Medical Evacuation) of B 780,000 max cover per year for an Annual Premium of TB 52,000 . For B 1,200,000 max cover per year for an Annual Premium of TB 67,000. The Annual Premium increases by about 8% ever year after that (assuming you don't make any major claim). No Deductible Discount factored in.

71 Years old you can get M I with a Max Annual Limit (Inpatient Benefits with Emergency Medical Evacuation) of B 780,000 max cover per year for an Annual Premium of TB 77,500. For B 1,200,000 max cover per year for an Annual Premium of TB 99,500. The Annual Premium increases by about 8% ever year after that (assuming you don't make any major claim). No Deductible Discount factored in.

76 Years old you can get M I with a Max Annual Limit (Inpatient Benefits with Emergency Medical Evacuation) of B 780,000 max cover per year for an Annual Premium of TB 104,000. For B 1,200,000 max cover per year for an Annual Premium of TB 133,500. The Annual Premium increases by about 8% ever year after that (assuming you don't make any major claim). No Deductible Discount factored in.

By my calculation to get say Medical Insurance Coverage in Thailand with a Max Annual Limit (Inpatient Benefits with Emergency Medical Evacuation) of B 780,000 per year (with No Deductible Discount factored in), from the age of 66 years old through to 80 Years old - then it is going to cost you upwards of TB 1,400,000 or USD 44,000, (over that 15 year period) based on today's Annual Insurance Premium Forecasts and selecting from one of those Insurance Companies on the Thai Long Stay Insurance list.

Why would i want stay Thailand? I came here in 1996
Even though like many of us I lost mega money through trust,I never regretted the move.
I would hate to go back UK and live my last days. Here is my home.
I live a simple life nowadays. With all the downsides of living here, I love Thailand.
Only problem now is,with the health insurance rule,I can never see my kids again.

Hi Choi Choi, don' get me wrong, I love Thailand as a place to live and I have no concerns with reporting every 90 days to Thai Immigration or even doing a border run/flight out and back every 90 days (if the new rules dictate this). I have no issue will living full time in Udon Thani. First, I just have to finish working. :-k

Only posted the information on Insurance for those who might be interested on realistic numbers of what it might cost for their respective age group. The cost information is accurate and recent, having communicated with a number of Insurance Companies over the past six weeks and at the same time obtained a number of insurance Cost plans from them. It may be of use to some who are contemplating it.

Not to keep on asking, but can I get this right? those staying in Thailand with a "O" type Visa dont require a health insurance. But now seems EVERYONE needs the insurance to enter Thailand. "O"Visa or not!
I have cancelled my trip to UK but British Airways will only give a voucher for a later flight!
If I cant get back, I lose 720 quid!
