Who's drinking this rubbish in the UK?

Post by tamada » December 21, 2023, 8:53 pm

The following are the 20 most popular beer brands in the UK at the moment.

I managed to drink a fair few pints in 8 different bars during my recent 2-week skiing holiday in Lancashire. One pub did have that Italian pish water but they also had Guinness, John Smiths and a couple of tasty IPA's. When I bought beer for the house, it was wonderful stuff like Lancaster Bomber, Hobgoblin, Old Golden Hen, Fursty Ferret and Strangler's Old Misty. None of this watery imported or brewed under license nonsense.

No wonder the country is going down the toilet if this is what the proles consider the best. It's all the bloody Tories fault.

Have to agree Tam. Who the hell drinks Bud and Bud light. Absolute nonsense. Cannot believe they still brew Carling, would not water my plants with that piss. As for people drinking 3% beers, Its BS most people are into the good old wife beater 6% beers these days. Your list has a pass mark but still iike a pint of Tennants when home.
PS Never seen Bud 9%.

Being a canny Scot (cheap Jock), I bought my home beers at Lidl or Asda and never bothered to price the "popular" brands on that list, but I would wager that the mass-marketing and price discounts for the likes of Budweiser is why it's top of the pile.

BTW, that's the percentage of the market Alex and as you can see, the spread is thin. If it was 9% ABV, that could explain why nobody's fit for work of a Monday except the eager and willing illegals, God bless 'em.

To answer the title of the thread. Me.

Bud, Sol, Peroni, Asahi. Great beers unless you happen to be a beer snob

! agree with Tam. out of that list, only 2 i would choose are Hobgoblin and Doombar. A couple i have never heard of, and most of those lagers i wouldn't drink if it was free. Greeneking unfortunately has taken over many of the older brewers in the south, and only sell stuff which reminds me of Watneys Red Barrel (cheap ---- bitter).

Fortunately my brother is a Camra man and so wouldn't go in a Greene individual pub.

Ah yes... Leeds isn't it?

Sol and Asahi is decent but not in England's top twenty.

When I lived in Cairo there was Stella (not Stella A, ) at 4% and Stella at 12%. After 5 of them it was a seriously slow next day.
Still cannot fathom why people drink Bud, in any form.
