Is Thaksin as corrupt as many or maybe most politicians? That includes Uncle Joe,Trump and the US congress.
Leaving non-Thailand politicians out of it, I think you would be hard pressed to name one non-corrupt Thai political leader since 1933. Thaksin gained immense popularity from the middle class and farmers because he promised to make their lives better and he delivered.

However, he angered military elites and others by indicating he was going to makes some fundamental changes. For instance, the head of the Privy Council (advisor to the monarch) was appointed by a top military official. Thaksin argued that this appointment should be made by the head of the civilian government, namely him. This irritated the military and other elites no end. They organised a coup charging Thaksin with corruption, an easy thing to prove, and anti-royalist sentiments (this did not seem to be true).

One wonders what he has done recently to anger the military and the elites. Is it over Prawit and Big Joke (Prawit's client)?

What does this mean other than the obvious?
Gen Prawit Wongsuwon, leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, meanwhile, denied any involvement in the 40 senators’ move against Mr Srettha, saying that although some of them are his friends or close associates, they have their own stance on the matter.

A close associate of former prime minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, who is now a member of the Privy Council, also dismissed speculation that Gen Prayut had something to do with the senators’ move, even though some of them are former classmates from the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School.

Just over 100 of the 250 outgoing senators are serving or retired military and police officers and all of them were appointed by Gen Prayut and Gen Prawit.

It means exactly the same as it meant in 2014 in that there will not be a coup.

That's a reassuring comment. Let's see if the genie stays in the bottle this time around.
