define "associated" elements of Al Qaeda. Seems to me that could cover dozens of jihadist groups scattered around the world.. Also, more and more countries around the world are getting or developing armed drone operations.. Could be that we'll just get out of the business ourselves and get our "allies" to do the dirty work?

Close Guantanomo?? Sure, you bet, put them in SuperMax Stateside but good lordy don't send them back to Yemen.. The Bush administration sent a number of Gitmo low security guys back for "rehabilitation" in their home countries (our friends the Saudis!) who returned to Jihad fighting our guys again...

I will be interested to see how the USA justifies drones when another organisation starts to fly them into New York.

    Yes, quite possibly, MS, but the drones might blow up on them before they even leave the ground. Those folks in Jersey are something else.

You guys, ease up on Bonanza...

If he believes there are "organisations" that will or might use drones in the US, I'm curious as to who he thinks is gonna do it....

The drones are very effective, extremely "terrorizing", and best of all, don't put our people at risk...

Again, and again we see articles like this one:

http://news.yahoo.com/u-launches-first- ... Q--;_ylv=3

President Obama recognised their usefulness early on, increasing their use 8X over President Bush... They work oh so well...

Well as a Brit I can tell you they are nothing new to us, only we were on the receiving end. The Germans used them quite a lot in WW2 on London, only in those days we called them "flying Bombs' or V2's .Obviously they weren't so accurate as the latest ones, although that could be in question apparently , but they did a lot of indiscriminate damage .
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

TB:

The comparisons to the V-1's is a good one.

The obvious difference being the current UAV's are actually controlled in real time by humans...

I am curious about how y'all about the way they're being used, currently.

After the clear, clear actions of 9/11, London, Madrid, etc., I believe whingin about civilian casualties from the drones is BS.

It is very naive to think that "other organizations" can't or don't already fly drones over the USA. Last I checked, I can buy or build almost any R/C flying vehicle or device there is in the USA.

Any "organization" could do the same. All they would need to do is launch it from any roof, window, or parking lot with a camera, audioscope, or whatever attached and transmit intelligence to wherever from the comfort of their car, Motel 6, RV, etc.

There is absolutely no need to fly a drone across the waters or over our borders. That would be silly.
Enjoy this site much more by adding idiots to your ignore list (Friends & Foes tab).

Well, at least this time seems they didn't get any (or only a few) civilians. There is a big difference in using drones against a country you are at war with and one that is supposedly an ally.... If a drone was used to take out a drug cartel in Mexico, would the Mexico government be outraged? Of course. Even if they were pleased that the cartel was taken out.

For every drone strike, how many new recruits do the taliban get? It is no simple solution, drone strikes can only ever be a holding action.

My, my this PhD seems to think otherwise...
Cornel West On CNN: Obama’s Drone Policy ‘Makes Us the George Zimmerman of the World’

While West could admire the “powerful, personal story the president shared with America, he used the speech to criticize the administration drones policy, which, by killing innocent civilians he said makes the United States “the George Zimmerman of the world.”
