Most people would surely say NO. But, as you reminded me recently, players here usually have only one season, even half-season contracts and changing clubs is, I guess, easier and more common than in Europe.
Let`s look at UDFC and building a team. In 2012 they finished 3rd in the league and could/should have kept the best players, got in some better players and made both the team and squad stronger. But they didn`t. Instead they signed 23 new players and let 22 go.

In 2013 they finished 2nd in the league, and again they could/should have kept the best ones and signed better players, but again, the changed almost the entire squad. 29 players in, 37 out.

In 2014 they finshed 2nd again, and they should have learned something from previous seasons, and kept the best players and signed better ones, both for getting a stronger team and a stronger squad.
But again, they fail to do so. 18 players are signed so far in 2015, many of them from other clubs in Division 2.
It looks as only 5 players from last season are being kept, one of them after only playing 4 (2+2) matches and who are far from being amongst the best players.

The 3 players signed yesterday, who`s said to come from Assumption College Sriracha, might not even come from a league club. There`s a 2nd Division club in Bagkok named Assumption United, and if it`s not that club they mean, the 3 is coming from a non-legue club. I don`t see any of those 3 being better, or as good as, the best players that has left UDFC in the last few weeks.

I really hope that UDFC will get promotion this season, but in my view, there`s nothing promising shown by the club or team yet. They beat Muang Thong United in a friendly, but there was at least 3 foreigners playing that still ain`t a UDFC-player, and they might never be.
To get into Champions League this season, UDFC will have to be better than last season. Possibly much better, as Khon Kaen, Roi Et, Ubon UMT and maybe 1 or 2 others will be fighting for the 2 (3?) places in Champions League. It will be, without a doubt, the strongest league in RL`s history, and to qualify for CL, you`ll need a very good team.

In a month, after 2-3 matches, we`ll now more about how our chances for promotion will be...:)

I`ve got it confirmed that the top 2 clubs in the North-Eastern league will qualify for Champions League this season (as usual), and that the team in 3rd place will play number 2 in the Southern league for the final CL-spot.
They will meet in a single match on neutral ground, probably in or around Bangkok somewhere.

Edit about Khon Kaen United.
They are not a new club, but renamed from Pakchong United, who finished 3rd from bottom in D2 Central-East last season. They were previously named Look-Isan and Thai Airways, and they has played a few seasons in D1 (as Thai Airways), but since 2010 they have been a D2-team, now under 3 different names. [-X

2 new signings for UDFC today, and one of them comes from Norway! Narongdet Raksanoi Solbakken comes from Raufoss Fotball in Norwegian 2nd Division (3rd level). He`s both Thai and Norwegian.
The 2nd signing is Adriano Pellegrino, who scored the goal against Muang Thong United a week ago.

Good, some added interest for you there, Svein. Let's hope he's 'useful'. AND you'll be able to invite him round to bite some heads off herrings.

Yes, having a Norwegian player at the club makes it more interesting. :D

Finally some news about the League Cup. The draw for the qualifying rounds will be made at 1pm today, and the 2 qualifying rounds will be played over the next 2 weekends. Let`s hope for a home game this week, so we can see the new team the club has signed over the last few weeks. :D

If my memory serves me correctly( which will be a surprise!) wasn't there a rule about 'lesser' Clubs being given the home advantage, (i.e. IF based on last season, likely Udon would have to play AWAY to all but Ubon), or does that only apply when the bigger Clubs get involved? Which Clubs are involved in the qualification games - only division 2?

TPL and D1 is not in the draw until the first proper round. It`s only D2-clubs in the qualification rounds.
Not sure if the lesser team gets an advantage of a home game in this draw, but UDFC had 2 awaygames in the qualification rounds last season (against "lesser" teams).
2 years ago UDFC played at home against Mahasarakham, who was the "lesser" team, so it didn`t matter then.
But we`ll see in a few hours where we`ll play... :D

UDFC will play Nong Khai in the League cup this coming weekend. Nobody translate home or away for me yet. :(
If UDFC win, they will then play at home (I think) against Loei City the next weekend, so it might be 2 games vs Loei City in a week (1st league game too).

The draw (our region):

The beginning of the season looks like this:

Jan 31 or Feb 1: Nong Khai vs UDFC (League Cup 1st Qualifying Round)

IF WE BEAT NONG KHAI: Feb 7 or 8: UDFC vs Loei City (League Cup 2nd Qualifying Round)

Feb 14 or 15: UDFC vs Loei City (1st League game of the season)

Got to be happy with that draw, as many fans will, I'm sure, travel up to near neighbours Nong Khai. Certainly suits me, as marginally Nong Khai is a better drive for me from home than Udon.
And must have a result on the day, no replays, obviously, with the next qualification game already pencilled in. So think extra time, then penalties, if needed.

Do you want some more fun and excitement during UDFC`s season? Join the North-East league tipping community.

Let`s see who`s the expert amongst us. Register today! :D

Today UDFC signed 3 new players, and now has a total of 26 new players + 5 from last season. Today`s signings was the Ukrainian defender who played against Muang Thong United, an Iranian midfielder and a midfielder from Chiang Mai, who has several seasons in TPL/D1 for Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Samut Songkhram (and maybe more clubs).
We finally got the missing central defender, so the season looks better now. :D

And the first game of the season (League Cup qualifier) is confirmed on Saturday January 31 at 5pm in Nong Khai.

Just a club name update, or who-is-who, as I`m sure more than me was unaware of this.
Ubon UMT is renamed Ubon Ratchathani, and Ubon UMT United is a new club. I got a "suspicion" of this a few days ago, and got it confirmed last night. :)

There`s a lot of info and statistics about UDFC and their current and former players on Wikipedia, but because UDFC is a Division 2 club, and has always been one, most of the pages at Wikipedia might be deleted in a few days, together with pages for players who hasn`t played in a fully professional league. In Thailand, only TPL is considered "fully professional" by Wikipedia.

All the info is now being moved to http://udfc.mamutweb.com/default.htm so those who are interested can find it even if it`s deleted at Wikipedia.

The main UDFC page at Wikipedia won`t be deleted, but most of the connected pages might be deleted after February 13.
