And Indonesia's Health Minister Terawan Agus Purwanto reckoned they were dodging the bullet because all good Indonesians were praying for it to go away.
And some reckon we got it bad here with DPM/Health Minister Anutin?

At the moment there are fortunately no reports of the virus mutating so the origin of the virus infection being from Italy has nothing to do with anything medically speaking.noosard wrote: ↑March 24, 2020, 4:01 pmThe cat is out of the bag or will be
Leading Thai doctor in dire warning: Deadly Italian strain of Covid-19 now set to wreak havoc in Thailand
He said that a relative of a person in the boxing fraternity who had been to Italy started the spread of the Italian strain of the virus.
That Italy has been hard hit is to do with its control measures.
If the virus starts mutating it will make vacation exponentially more difficult.

That 'leading doctor' was speaking out of his ass. BTW, here's the citation for those who like to read fake news.sometimewoodworker wrote: ↑March 24, 2020, 4:41 pmAt the moment there are fortunately no reports of the virus mutating so the origin of the virus infection being from Italy has nothing to do with anything medically speaking.noosard wrote: ↑March 24, 2020, 4:01 pmThe cat is out of the bag or will be

As STWW says, there's no 'Italian strain' of this bloody thing.
That guy should be shot for pure scaremongering. And guess what? He expressed this unfounded medical opinion on his bloody FB page. Nothing official like. That's what you get in the vacuum created by an increasingly silent government all at sea and a DPM/Health Minister who doesn't know his ass from his elbow.
(But he throws awesome dinner parties)

According to New Scientist the virus has mutated into two strains:sometimewoodworker wrote: ↑March 24, 2020, 4:41 pmAt the moment there are fortunately no reports of the virus mutating so the origin of the virus infection being from Italy has nothing to do with anything medically speaking.noosard wrote: ↑March 24, 2020, 4:01 pmThe cat is out of the bag or will be

"The first strain is likely to have emerged around the time the virus jumped from animals to humans. The second emerged soon after that, says the team. Both are involved in the current global outbreak. The fact that the L-type is more prevalent suggests that it is “more aggressive” than the S-type, the team say."
“There do appear to be two different strains,” says Ravinder Kanda at Oxford Brookes University in the UK. “[The L-type] might be more aggressive in transmitting itself, but we have no idea yet how these underlying genetic changes will relate to disease severity,” she says."

Looks like the government in Udon has a roadblock set up down on Route 2 at Non Sa-At where all passengers disembark for COVID-19 Screening....
The Province. Udon Thani #set up a screening checkpoint from Bangkok-perimeter to downtown #first stage at Non Sa-at District, khon kaen-Udon Thani by screening everyone. Check all cars, not just bus and Relay the shift for 24 hours.... many provinces. Don't screening just at transport or airport. #There are plenty of people traveling with private cars... most importantly, you need to be serious, not to be strict. Check it out. Fever show only when journalists are surrounded.

The first mutation was when it crossed from [insert exotic animal here] to human. The second, more aggressive mutation is the one that hit Wuhan and has subsequently spread globally. There is no evidence or suggestion that there's a more virulent 'Italian' strain.

The article does not suggest 2 mutations, that would give 3 different strains, nor is it certain for one to be more aggressive in its effecttamada wrote: ↑March 24, 2020, 11:36 pm

It would have transferred from its zoonotic host unchangedThe differences between the two identified strains are tiny. In fact, they can’t really be considered to be separate “strains”, says Jones. And many of the genetic differences won’t affect the production of proteins, and so won’t change the way the virus works, or the symptoms it causes, he says. One is not more deadly than the other.
With only 103 cases analysed, while extremely useful, it’s only a start

Another lesson in semantics, thanks.
I doubt my comment suggested 3 variants to anyone else, (variants = mutations = strains) but no big deal. My belief and final comment that there is no evidence of an extra specially wicked Italian type (type = variant = mutation = strain) still stands.
I wonder why this and other similarly premature and totally speculative comments on early research don't state their lack of sufficient and meaningful data in their opening paragraph?
Puff pieces like this, that include differing opinions, end up being cherry-picked with only the bits the reader likes being spread like coronavirus across forums and social media.
Witness what's happening after someone only suggested the efficacy of chloroquine against Covud-19. There's people now desperately trawling the world pharmaceutical markets, hoovering up a drug that may be better used for it's primary, medically-proven function.

My read on the 2 strains is that the chinese not give bad one to the world
so china is nice place and we should be friendly to them
but distrustfully of the italians
ie propaganda

^^ Yes... and casually forget that the global economic boom that various western countries have enjoyed over the past 8 or 10 years was nurtured on China's teat, engorged by their hoovering up of the raw materials and resources that the same western countries happily sold to them.
Re: Miscellaneous COVID-19/Corona Virus Discussion, Questions, etc.
The main problems with viruses are the simp0le fact that they can and do mutate , like Flu, next year a slightly different strain, same basic BUG but with changes, like a car manufacturer, same make, different design etc.
Your body has the inbuilt ability to detect and deal with many invasions, be it Physical ( cut, sting, etc, ) to Stealthy bugs, viruses various , other illnesses many of us were vaccinated against in our formative youth .
Too many rely on the Medical profession together with the Pharmaceutical Companies to deal with many of these problems, when in fact most can deal with a lot purely by taking care and listening to your body . Major illnesses of course are another matter Cancer, to name one . But generally most everyday stuff we can over the years build up immunity or some immunity to the effects of these BUGS.

Some can and do, others do not, fortunately COVID 19 like MERS and SARS does not, or not enough to make a future vaccine difficult.
Flue is unusual not the standard.
2 viruses have been completely eradicated rinderpest and smallpox one is on the way out polio

This is for you Whistler
My village has got 5 returners from down south
all thai
village police have visited them and got the required info
if had been farang would have done the same
These 5 have been told they are to self isolate for 14 days
report any sickness
Neighbour watch is in action here
The villagers on the whole take this seriously

^ No. He got tested only after displaying slight symptoms. Since he'd apparently sporked Camilla in the byre earlier, she was tested too but no, she's not pregnant.
