Miscellaneous COVID-19/Corona Virus Discussion, Questions, etc.

This if true , it will hearten many and end the delays in re-opening
Scientists maintain you cannot catch it twice .
A number of reported cases of coronavirus patients relapsing after overcoming the disease were actually due to testing failures, South Korean scientists say.
Researchers at the South Korean centre for disease control and prevention (CDC) now say it is impossible for the COVID-19 virus to reactivate in human bodies.
There have been more than 10,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in South Korea, with 245 deaths - a 2.3% fatality rate, which is lower than the 3.4% average as stated by the World Health Organisation.
A total of 277 patients in the country were believed to have fallen ill for a second time, as had patients in China and Japan.
This prompted concerns that the virus could be mutating so quickly that people were not necessarily immune to catching it again.
However, genetic analyses of the virus have not found any substantial changes which would effectively disguise it from the immune system.
Partially as a result of these reports, the World Health Organisation warned governments against using so-called "immunity passports" to allow people to return to work simply because they have antibodies for the virus.
Immunity passports are a proposed way of allowing countries to begin to lift their coronavirus lockdowns in a targeted manner and resume economic activity.
They would be issued to people who have already overcome a COVID-19 infection and test positive for antibodies to the virus, based on the assumption they are therefore immune.
In an update to its guidance, the WHO warned there was "no evidence that people who have recovered from COVID-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection".
But it was not expected that the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test used to check the blood for antigens - actual particles of the virus itself - could also have issues.
South Korea's CDC has found that the test results for the suspected relapsed patients were false positives, and warned the test it used was not able to distinguish between live traces of the virus and the harmless dead samples which remain after patients have recovered
In summary, obviously a long way to go but it appears that this Virus like the Flu could be caught numerous times with mild side-effects, not the full blown virus we are currently dealing with . Interesting I think

^^ I recall reading a recent news story where the PM commented publicly that none of the 20 richest families contacted had offered to help.

Re: Miscellaneous COVID-19/Corona Virus Discussion, Questions, etc.
A point that may have been made is that there could easily be 5 or more groups of people
1) no detectable virus, no detectable antibodies; never infected (can be infected, cannot infect)
2) no detectable virus, no detectable antibodies; infected virus suppressed by medication & did not develop antibodies or newly infected (can develop/redevelop symptoms, can infect)
4) detectable virus, no detectable antibodies; current untreated or treated infection with or without symptoms (Is infected, Can infect)
5) no detectable virus, detectable antibodies; body has completely eradicated the virus (probably cannot be infected, cannot infect)
Different tests are needed for virus (they are not very sensitive and need over 3,000 in the sample, HIV needs 40) and the antibodies (again at the moment they may not be sensitive or accurate enough)

The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

Figures not up-to-date but interesting nevertheless
Also interesting to compare UK with Taiwan; both UK & Taiwan had 40 confirmed cases on 2nd March but today UK has 21,678 deaths whereas Taiwan only 6 deaths.

So the numbers when updated this lunchtime can be expected not so encouraging IF the Yala are added .vincemunday wrote: ↑May 3, 2020, 8:09 pmGood news couldn’t last forever.

Exactly where have they hidden the truth? It’s in the national press for heavens sakes!

Re: Miscellaneous COVID-19/Corona Virus Discussion, Questions, etc.
AS usual you are missing the POiNT. They state 3 new cases and lower down they state 40 more cases in YALA, however they lead with ONLY 3 New Cases, which part of that do YOUI NOT understand . Which is the truth as they want us to believe .

As usual Paul, show me another example. The numbers were released before the test results came out yesterday afternoon, they should be in todays numbers.

Provincial public health chief Songkran Maichum said on Sunday that intense testing since April 20 had uncovered 40 new cases, now confirmed in lab results.

Re: Miscellaneous COVID-19/Corona Virus Discussion, Questions, etc.
Disturbing news coming from the U Ks NHS . They have found that this virus not only effects the lungs , but can also attack other vital organs .
They have found that around 20% of those effected and recovering are also showing signs of kidney problems and some will need intensive renal treatment . Not good news at all .
