You do have to wonder about politicians sometimes, why does it always take them so long to realize the bleeding obvious

Wow! That could so easily have been the UK had they followed Boris's initial herd immunity nonsense. It was bad enough as it was with them punting the untested elderly into care homes to free up precious NHS beds for the more valuable but less vulnerable younger generation getting sick.Chuchi wrote: ↑May 12, 2020, 3:47 pmYou do have to wonder about politicians sometimes, why does it always take them so long to realize the bleeding obvious

It will be quite easy for the government to waive any and all restrictions on single- entry, non-extendable tourist visas for bona fide tourists and let the Chinese and Koreans return.pipoz4444 wrote: ↑May 12, 2020, 2:28 pmSTWW
Reading Thaivisa and other Forums, there appears to be an expectation by TAT that the number of Tourists to Thailand will slowly pick up from July through to October, with something close to normality in the last part of this years. Maybe it is just optimism on their part.
Either way if Thailand wants any more Tourists, then the Thai Immigration will need to significantly, sort out their issues with suggesting USD 100,000 Insurance and health checks verified by a Thai Embassy 72 hours before one travels. I doubt very few Tourist could ever obtain such Insurance and I don't know of any Insurance Company that is presently offering cover for Covid 19. I also doubt many Thai Embassies overseas would even get involved in it.
In the event that the T Imm have such ludicrous conditions in please for Tourists, then it is hard to see how any Tourists will ever return to Thailand.
One of the reasons that Tourism became successful in Thailand to the extent that it contributed 17.7% of the Thai GDP in 2019 (12 Trillion Baht 2019 and back in 2013 it was 1 Trillion Baht), was the ease that tourists could get a visa when arriving in Thailand. if they take this ease of getting a visa away with any form of draconian conditions at the airports, the tourist number will dry up overnight. Tourists will simply find somewhere else to go with less restrictions.
If this drying up significantly, didn't send Thailand into a Depression, what with the Hotel & Restaurant industries being the first to collapse, then nothing would.
One can only hope that there is a sensible person at the top making decisions Wishful thinking on my part.

However, I don't predict any similar liberalization of the long-term visa requirements. With resurgent Covid-19 'waves', it would be far easier for the Thai government if foreigners went home before their 14-day virus incubation was over.

Regrettably we are in completely unknown territory on this.
Certainly Thailand has got a lot of its income from tourism in the past and will try to do so in the future.
However the current situation is totally unprecedented so there is nothing that we can look back on to say this is what’s likely to happen in the future.
One point that will certainly be considered is that once tourists are allowed any hint that a trip to Thailand includes a bonus SARS-2 infection will almost certainly kill the industry.
How this can be avoided I have no idea but I think that it’s one of the main points that are being discussed

Yes I can imagine, I know lots of people who used to come to Thailand (they all seem to prefer Vietnam etc now) and most wouldn’t go to Phuket because there were too many Muslims and non Thai, many stopped going to theChuchi wrote: ↑May 12, 2020, 5:19 pmHave to be honest Vince last few times in Phuket I rarely came across Brits ,coach loads of Chinese and Russians. The exchange rate doesn’t really inspire people to visit either.vincemunday wrote: ↑May 12, 2020, 5:09 pmPerhaps not great news for Thailand, surely another blow to TAT?

I found this discussion very interesting for many reasons.
I hope that he is mistaken in his statement that since people who have had COVIS19 and recovered can get the visrus later, that no vaccine is possible.

For the 1st time in about 5 weeks just had a provincial bus take on passengers near my home - 296 (Orange) route between Udon and Khamtakla so looks other services are resuming.
From what I could see all were wearing a mask but it was about 75% full so where is the social distancing?

Did Germany ease lock down too soon? It certainly looks like they might have.

Re: Miscellaneous COVID-19/Corona Virus Discussion, Questions, etc.
In yet another WTF moment it turns out the US is saying that China is hacking data on treatments for the virus , so let me get this right ,the two big powers are not co operating to solve the crisis and America sees what they know about the virus as IP. We're all doomed with that attitude ,everyone should be sharing data to speed things up ,now it turns out America wants the vaccine just for itself. Also in the news is they think the virus is becoming endemic so it will never go away so we can say good bye to anyone over the age of 60 as it slowly kills off all the older generations . What a cluster fug.
