Roughly, Abrams had roughly a 13-1 kill ratio against T-72's (older Soviet tanks) in the Gulf War.

Ukraine (lack of training, logistics and battlefield geography) they'd be lucky with a 6-1 kill ratio (that's tank on tank) even against T-90 and possibly T-14 tanks. The Abrams, on the other hand would be mopping the floors with other armored vehicles and ground troops.

Also, expect US will be providing tactical advice on how to best use / defend the Abrams.

In any case, sending Ukraine Abrams just allows Germany and other allies to send Leopard 2 tanks (at least 100 of them). Win Win in My Book!!!!

Leopard 2's could be delivered as early as mid-next month, as tank crew training takes 3-6 weeks.

Abrams training 20-26 weeks to fully train a crew, maybe 10-12 weeks for just the basics. Though doubt US and Ukraine would like the idea of just basic training for tank crews.

Hopefully, Ukraine has enough experienced tank crews available that already have enough knowledge to decrease effective training times.

Expect the main goal was to get Leopard 2's on the battlefield before any possible spring offensive!!!!

Also, pretty sure Ukraine doesn't have armoured recovery vehicles that'll handle an Abrams.

Noted this morning, Ukraine upgrading their tank recovery vehicles to handle Abrams.

Not since early last year have I seen videos of Russians using recovery vehicles to retrieve damaged tanks (most of those videos were just prior to Ukraine blowing them up), they just seem to leave them on the battlefield for Ukraine to recover, use for spare parts or fix (if it's worth the trouble).

Looking forward to seeing how much of a difference Bradley Fighting Vehicles make on the battlefield next month.

Yup, and there are still people who think diplomacy and deal making with Russia is the answer.

Do get the feeling Ukraine / West has learned it's lesson (stupidly late......you can't trust Putin's Russia), war will end once Ukraine regains all it's territory per internationally recognized borders......and Russia no longer has the ability or will to threaten Ukraine's sovereignty.

IIRC, Mearsheimer is broadly critical of western policies so maybe his prescient prediction was lost in the larger flow of effluent.
