Ukraine
Re: Ukraine
Have told a few Polish jokes in my life time.
However, very impressed with Poland's understanding of the situation in Ukraine and how it effects their own (+ global) security.
Sadly, some Americans aren't that smart.

President Biden in a new interview said he is ruling out providing F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine “for now,” despite pleas from Ukrainian leadership for the planes in their war against Russia.
“He doesn’t need F-16s now,” Biden told ABC News’ David Muir when asked about the requests from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky."

The Poles are no friends of Russia. There is the Katyn Forest massacre, the 2010 plane crash and 45 years of occupation.

Good link.
He certainly knew what he was talking about. But the Russians interfering with US elections ensured their man, Trump, got in so undermining McCain and his fight against Putin.

Re: Ukraine
Today's MoD update below reminds me of the arguments around Vietnam and two (maybe three) US Presidents who didn't serve in SE Asia during that time. The rich control policy while the poor bear the burden of wars. In later years, McCain opposes Trump, who points at the former's war record and questions whether he was ever a 'war hero' because he was captured. This is the outcome of populist politics.

Watch RT or read the CBC news online and you'll get your Ukraine-Russia fix.

Re: Ukraine
After zipping around some European capitals earlier in the week and a video call with European leaders in Reykjavik, Zelenskyy is off to Hiroshima on Sunday for an audience with the august body that is the G7 (+8).
He's perceived in the media to be doing all the heavy lifting here but I wonder how the 22 members of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers are coping? I imagine the President is the chief fundraiser and salesman while they are performing their duties back home under considerable duress. A quick look at their resume's suggests that most of them, or at least some in key positions are Gen-X'ers with only 2 or 3 years at their posts so an incredible feat of on-the-job learning going on here.

Re: Ukraine
Until recently, lots of information was getting out about what was happening at the front. That was useful to those of us who were following the conflict, but alas also probably of some help to the Russians - they probably got more information from all those youtube videos and blogs than from their own commanders, who just lied about their incompetence and disasters.
Although no news also meant little change at the front, the fog of war may help Ukraine achieve some surprise if they are able to launch a major offensive. However, I think both sides are currently worn out and it is going to be a long slog.

Re: Ukraine
Now the next point of concern in the current phase of this war: the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) – with six nuclear reactors, the largest of its kind in Europe, and one of 10 largest in the world.
….and under the occupation of irresponsible Russian monsters since 4 March 2022.
The Russian destruction of the Kakhovka Dam is directly related to the events at the ZNPP, because the Kakhovka Basin is providing the cooling water for its reactors, and for its spent fuel. Reactors have been shut down, but they – and the spent fuel – still need constant cooling by water.
The cooling ponds were fed from the Kakhoka dam
June 6th ponds were 18m they have since dropped by at least 4 m and at the 12 m mark may not be viable for cooling the reactor
