Looking for a starter violin

Anyone happen to have a decent, basic violin they want to sell? It's for a 13-year-old girl who's learning, so don't need a Stradivarius. Or perhaps can anyone recommend a good music store that sells new and used instruments in town? I.e., violins, trumpets, ukeleles, etc.? Thanks for any tips or ad...

Income statement, new rules from NK Immigration office

They made me sign a letter to this effect last time I was there also. I asked him - the new guy - aka "the ringer" - if he would really refuse a US Embassy Proof of Income affidavit, and he gave me a passive-aggressive, typically mealy-mouthed, " Too hard to calculate proof of income with letter - w...

Dentist Updates???

A few people told me about an English speaking prosthodontist located near Udon Pit school.

Anyone have any details? Name? Location? Don't know where Udon Pit is either.

Thanks for any help or tips.

NEW POLL Edward Snowden - Hero or Traitor?

I think he did everyone a service by telling us what the government is up to these days. Apparently, they've been up to a lot, peeping, poking, and collecting all our data. As someone who worked for the NSA over 30 years ago, I would never have thought of betraying my oath - I don't think it would h...

Re: John Lennon.

Just out of the service, I was riding my motorcycle across the US. Checked into a motel in Phoenix, saw the news; just sat there, stunned & sad. He was the man. The straight shooter. The working class hero. Something to be. Hard to imagine what he would have become by today, at 70. We'll never know.

Re: The Marketing Guru. All about branding.

I'd be very keen to know what the marketing experts around here think about this organization's approach: http://www.smiletrain.org/site/PageServer Particularly their use of imagery especially prevalent on pages like this: http://www.smiletrain.org/site/PageServer?pagename=smiles Non-expert opinions...

Re: Bank Finance for home

A couple questions: 1) Do you reckon Finance Companies would do the same re lending, considering I've bought 2 cars through them over the years? And never missed a payment, this have a spotless record with them? 2) And what if it was a business I wanted to buy, and not a house? Providing of course t...

Re: Does anyone else feel ashamed about what we did in Iraq?

Jane Mayer pretty much "proves it" in her excellent book, "The Dark Side". Well worth a read. The invasion was not justified. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Tenet, Addington, et al, couldn't've given a damn. The even greater tragedy was the diversion of critical resources away from Afghanistan at the time....

Re: EVA Air NO SHOW

When I was single and had a bit more disposable income - and travelled alone - I used to love EVA's Economy Deluxe, or Evergreen Class, or Elite Class - there seem to be many names for this in-between class. Closer to Economy rates than Business rates, and the legroom was wonderful, as was the servi...

Re: visa question

I just returned from US and re-entered with my Multiple Entry visa. They set the expiration date at 2 Dec, which is the date my original O visa expired (a couple years ago; I've got extensions since then). The 90-day check-in slip in my passport is dated 16 Aug, when I would've checked in with them ...

Re: Dual nationality question

Quick update: My son's Thai passport arrived in US in time for us to use it upon re-entry to Thailand; however, they told us: 1) To choose and use only one passport for our 2-year-old; and 2) Not to worry about using the US one for him to enter, given his age. They said he'll need to decide which on...

Re: Dual nationality question

Hey Ed - No, we'll use US passport in US, entering & leaving. I know you gotta be careful sometimes. I once led a tour group travelling from Cambodia to Burma, and passing through Don Muang in transit. I made the mistake of checking them all into Thailand to get their luggage, forgetting it would be...

No worries, Aardie.

Guess I should go vote for Jack's avatar now, even though I have just had to field a few questions on it.

Yours fine though, Aa, even if he (she? it?!?) is naked! Think it's a male, though, eh?
