Re: Visiting Cambodia

From my home here in Phnom Penh, I wish everyone a very happy and successful new year. The celebrations in this city attracted more than a million people, to witness the “Celebrating Cambodia” riverfront parade, the firecrackers and laser light show on Sisowath Quay, plus the glorious firework displ...

Re: Why advertise if you’re not going to welcome enquiries

Thanks for the response. The website for the packing and storage company gave the option of contacting either a Thai or English-speaking person. We chose the latter, with no response. The Thai visa company, unsurprisingly, advertise in English so that is the language we used, five times without resp...

Why advertise if you’re not going to welcome enquiries

Why advertise if you’re not going to welcome enquiries Do you, as I do, find it odd and not a little annoying, when making enquiries with companies and getting little or no response? Not pointing a finger at any particular company(s), but over the past couple of weeks, we have requested information ...

Tragedy and change

Tragedy and change The school bus fire in Bangkok on the 1st of October, reminded me of another avoidable tragedy, involving the deaths of many school children. Almost exactly 58 years ago, the small mining village of Aberfan in South Wales, found itself the subject of international news when, at 9:...

Padded bags for small items by post

Hi everyone I am looking for a supplier of padded bags suitable for sending used books through the post within Thailand. Ideally, large enough for 1, 2 or 3 books, and have a self sealing strip. I am aware that some shops have them, but I am looking for a bulk supplier, preferably in Udon. Thanks, F...

Re: Horror bus inferno in Bangkok

May they rest in peace 5 Oct.24: It is said that parents have nothing more valuable than their children. As a parent, I can but experience empathy and an incomprehensible depth of sadness, for all those who so tragically lost their lives, in the bus fire in Bangkok, earlier this week. Pointing fing...

Re: Visiting Cambodia

The US dollar is accepted just about everywhere but be aware that notes must be in very good condition. The government, recently, requested businesses to accept USD bills that are in less than perfect condition. Also, banks have been asked not to charge for taking slightly damaged notes. This is in ...

Re: Visiting Cambodia

6 Sept.24: Just for interest: 21 years ago, during my first visit to Phnom Penh, I recall looking across the Tonle Sap one evening, and wondered what the future held for what appeared to be a somewhat dark and deserted outpost. Visitors nowadays to Phnom Penh can see for themselves, an impressive sk...

Re: Visiting Cambodia

Thanks for the info.
In my experience, the authorities here in Cambodia, unlike some places I know, avoid “making a mountain out of a molehill” I look forward to hearing more about your visa and bank account experiences.
Good luck, Fuzzyken

Re: Visiting Cambodia

Re. Bank accounts in Cambodia You must have an address here confirmed by a rent contract and a long-term visa, such as retirement or employment. In my experience, ABA is the most accommodating for foreign nationals but of course, you would have to visit the bank to discuss your needs. At that time t...

Re: Visiting Cambodia

Good morning everyone Let’s get back on track, and I don’t mean the trains. This thread is about going to Cambodia not wrestling with the immigration rules for entering the land of smiles. We all have different requirements, often dictated by health, finance, and personal issues, but what I like abo...

Re: Visiting Cambodia

By way of confirmation, almost all visitors need a visa to enter Cambodia. This can be obtained by most nationalities on arrival (VOA) or on line. Separate from this, everyone, including Cambodian Nationals, must complete the new “arrival card” within 7 days of arrival whether or not they are in pos...

Re: Train to Vientiane

I have read that there is now a train service from Bangkok to Vientiane. However, reading further into this, it would appear that one has to alight at Nong Khai and by one means or another, cross the Friendship Bridge, go to Laos immigration for a visa or just pass through the checkpoint, then get t...

Re: Things to do in Aberdeen

Well, all things considered, the best thing to do in Aberdeen is to get the 11:47 LNER train arriving Kings Cross, London at 6:49 pm, direct service for about 150 quid

Got any better ideas ?

Just to confirm Lucky Lucky Moto is indeed almost opposite Street 184 They are at #413EO on Monivong Blvd. and their phone number is 012 279 990, although better to pay them a visit. There is/was a similar business to their left, so if you require Lucky Lucky Moto, make sure you visit the right one....

Re: Visiting Cambodia

Because I'm unsure about the flexibility of the evisa, my advice would be to simply arrive at Phnom Penh airport and get a 30-day visa on arrival, VOA. This is usually a very simple procedure and will be valid for a stay up to 30 days for tourism. I believe that this visa can be extended for a furth...
