Thank you people.
I've just had a very amusing telephone conversation with the Vietnamese authorities and the answer is 'extremely problematic'. They told me to not even bother contacting their Chinese counterparts.
Looks like I'll only be exloring Isarn and Laos now.

Re: Can I own a car in my own name?
Yes, probably, but I think it does depend on type of visa you have as well... Bit of paperwork to get. The registration authority will give you a form to take to Immigration for them to confirm your address/visa status. - unless you have a 'yellow book' in which case that acts as the proof of addre...

Re: English to be second language
I taught English after leaving the army. I've been a volunteer teacher for almost as long in Thailand. Here's my take. Thailand Is Not Ready To Upgrade English It really isn't ready. And the problem is two-fold and because of the levels that I teach at, I can see where the problems lay. I teach firs...

I was quoted 500,000 B for a pool!
I had to laugh. Naturally, I won't be taking the company up on their generous offer!
Is such a high price normal here?
I don't want an Olympic pool!

Oh, I've heard that Saddam was a big carrot fan, Barstool.
Vegetables of 'mass' destruction. Sounds like they're good for weight loss.
Must have been all that complimentary Western booze that gave him his gut.

Re: Does anyone else feel ashamed about what we did in Iraq?
Wouldn't be surprised to see Iran control Iraq one of these days! Not while our glorious multinationals own 80% of Iraq. And let's face it, that was all the invasion and occupation was about. And if Kuwait had been growing carrots instead of producing oil, nobody would have given a damn about Sadda...

Bush is STILL a ****** and will remain so until he dies.
I read an interesting statistic somewhere that 70% of his public speeches were just 'ur' and 'um'.
There's some great moments of him on You Tube!

No. My actions saved the lives of our young infantry.nkstan wrote:So DS,are you ashamed that to did in the Republican guard?
But I didn't particulalrly care for what the Allied air forces did on the road to Basra.
I'm ashamed that our politicians are controlled by multinational corporations, however.

Re: Does anyone else feel ashamed about what we did in Iraq?
If you read my OP, I was also on the ground there. In '91. I was in an advanced forward unit. What made me mad was how the US media portrayed the Elite Republican Guard as a bunch of high school girls. Even after being battered by air and naval bombardments, they were still anything but a push over....

Re: "newbies" on Udonmap - Welcome or not?
I don't have a lot to say, but when I do I come out and say it. I got bashed for my first post because I started a thread on the delicate issue of Iraq. Thankfully, the thread quickly turned out to be an intelligent one though and is still one of the most popular on the forum. :bighead: Time for me ...
