As I've said many times, with some on here, there is no cure for contempt.
Everyone should always do what is best for them individually.

Re: new tax for all foreigners...
Good news for all Americans 1. Trump pulled the US out of OECD, which means the US is not participating in the global minimum tax nonsense. Even if Thailand opts into it, Thailand would not have access to US banking information. 2. The US-Thailand Treaty of Amity contains wording that US citizens li...

Re: Recent Excellent DHL Experience
A TIT story that I have never previously experienced. Thailand Customs can turn on a dime. Looks like they're trying to get every satang possible out of us in Customs. I've never ever had anything like this happen with a package via any carrier. On Day 1, Thailand Customs wanted pictures and prices ...

Re: U.S. Politics
Strange how everything that happens in American politics has an effect on the world, it's politics,it's economy it's culture. Watch any media and all you get is American politics. Yet something that affects everyone on the planet we as 'non Americans ' are supposed to be quiet and observe. Strange ...

I caught that right away.Bandung_Dero wrote: ↑January 8, 2025, 9:25 amYes I do understand what the thread covers. I used "400K/800K" as the seasoning rules are very similar in both types of extension.

I might be wrong but I assumed one could use their funds during the seasoning period so long as they did NOT lower the balance below 400K/800K Baht. If there has been zero activity on your acct. for 3 months, as shown in the official bank statement, how can an I/O question that? ---- Silly me!!!! D...

Re: TAX on Income from Abroad
Hi T and I will retain Thailand as a base, just that I will spend some time elsewhere. Who knows I may still even apply for the Thai 12 Month Retirement Visa. The one thing for sure is that we don't know what is around the corner once we approach or pass the 70 years of age, so best to keep all doo...

Re: TAX on Income from Abroad
Interesting story from a friend who lives south of Phitsanulok. He went to a local TRD office to get a TIN. No one else was there, so staff in the vicinity of his conversation were tuned in to his inquiry. The interviewer checked his passport. The interviewer told him that he had a retirement visa a...

Re: TAX on Income from Abroad
Sweet deal for US citizens coming to Thailand for only 179 Days. According to the Thai Embassy, US citizens can visit Thailand for 30 days under the visa exemption program. There is also a 60-Day Visa upon Entry started on July 15, 2024. US citizens are entitled to receive a 60-day visa upon entry t...

Another unintended consequence of the TRD. Talked to 2 guys today who have already started their 179-Day stays in Thailand. One is a friend. The other is friends with that friend. Both had 2 bank accounts that they used for renewing their visas. One closed both of their accounts. The other closed on...

Re: TAX on Income from Abroad
Newton's Third Law For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. People will change their behavior as the tax rates are changed. Foreigners are "not inert blocks of wood or chess pieces that can be moved around on a chess board." There will be a reaction; and it's been tested before in ...

I have also heard rumblings of the tax extending BEYOND what expats bring into the country. A global tax on all of your assets whether you bring those assets into the country or not.
Rumors flying everywhere, but nothing would surprise me at this point.

I am 99.9% certain i have no tax liability in Thailand. I have approx. 600,000 in allowances, and a UK Government pension covered by the UK/Thai DTA. My only issue is exactly what proof they will require, as most of it is in comingled funds. Until such time as specific guidance is issued (none yet)...
