Re: Life outside the Ring Road

Thanks for that, I guess anywhere outside the ring road it would take some amount of effort to get yourself back and forth if you have a big night out downtown, no matter as my big nights out are alot fewer than they used to be. In Phuket on the rare occasion that I go to town ( patong ) I ride the ...

Re: Life outside the Ring Road

Cheers Galee, Is that the one just down the road from the BB resort? I have heard that the small courses around udon are slightly sub standard but i have not played any of the 9 holers. I did play Victory park about 6 months ago and it was quite nice, for where it is, I had the place all to myself. ...

Life outside the Ring Road

Can I get some of your expert opinions on living in the general Ban Luam area? Or perhaps after reading my long winded post someone may have a better idea for me. I am doing some ground work for my upcoming move to Udon, I have lived in Phuket for 16 years and have visited Udon many times so I have ...

Re: Going to Laos, need a few travel tips

TBone, I live in Laos. The Laos Orchid is a nice hotel, however I would suggest you stay at the Souphaphone Guest House, which is directly opposite the Hare and Hounds Hotel. For about $20.00 you will get a nice large room, air, TV and a fridge. The GH is about 1 year old, very clean and very pleas...

Re: Going to Laos, need a few travel tips

Cheers Chriss, The Laos Orchid it is then, where is the action from there (shopping and pubs) do we just head East along the river front and go where our wandering shoes take us? Or maybe better if I let the missus work it all out and follow her around until I get tired of that and find a pub instead?

Re: Going to Laos, need a few travel tips

Cheers all, I have truly come to the right place for advice. From the info gained from the forum and talking to a few of the boys here (phuket) it looks like the hotel will be the Inter city ( sounds like a football club ) or the Laos Orchid, if I am looking at google correctly they seem to be 1 blo...

Re: Going to Laos, need a few travel tips

Thanks to all for the quick and very informative replies. I did discover the previous threads on this subject about 10 minutes after I made the initial post and was expecting to be roasted over the coals for not knowing that, so thanks for your friendly and helpful responses. I have read that the ri...

Re: Tourists to face closer monitoring

Took a little road trip this past week. Only stayed in two hotels, one in Saraburi and one at Khao Yai National park. Driver's license worked just fine at both hotels. Never opened my passport during the entire trip. Makes one wonder how consistent compliance is across the country. Additionally, mu...

Re: Chabaa Resort - Udon Thani

Does anyone have any recent experience staying at the Chabaa resort?
Wondering if they are still up and running, interested in knowing if they have proper car parking, pub, pool, food etc?
I will be in Udon on Sept 7th and would like to stay a bit outside the city.

Re: "newbies" on Udonmap - Welcome or not?

Before I comment on this topic and possibly offend the long standing members, would someone please be so kind as to clarify for me exactly what a "newbie" is in the context of this forum. Is it someone who is new to the Udonmap forum or someone who is new to Thailand? I have lived in Phuket for 16 y...

Re: Tourists to face closer monitoring

The last 4 or so hotels/resorts we've checked into (Phurua, Bangkok, Pai, Maehongson), I've not been asked for a passport. There's a blank for passport number, and I fill it in, but no one has ever verified the number I put (usually 9 digits, but sometimes 10 or 8) I have lived in Phuket for 15 yea...
