Having volunteer falang on-board is an excellent idea, Jon (Yan) who owned Aussie Pub (not sure of new name) has been doing it for a while, and then there is Big Steve. If the one you saw had a uniform then he's been at it a long time, cos it took Steve 2 yrs to get his uniform. Nobody should knock them or compare them to the police we get back home. When they volunteer they are actually thinking of our well being rather than that of Thai citizens, they see themselves as able to bring down barriers which some of us spend so much time building - generally for the wrong reasons.

Last week I was in the complex with my TGF and saw this guy on patrol, my TGF saw the British Flag badge on his shirt, along with the Tourist Police badge and was amazed that a Brit was working with the Thai Police, and it was a positive reaction, she liked the idea. Perhaps if more Thais realised (thought) that we had at least a voice in the Police (at whatever level) then their attitude of us being "fair game" would change a little over time.
Anyway, to me it did no harm seing him on patrol with his collegues, and as I said above, no harm to my TGF either, so I see no reason in knocking these people, if - God forbid - I do get into trouble with the Police, a friendly face and easy communication will be a welcome thing indeed.
