I'm surprised the night market wasn't mentioned, there's at least 4-5 individual beer bars located by the big screen TV.

the start of this thread severed our jugular, now were all helping it bleed. jacks right, all your doing is encouraging the patters partiers up here with all this great publicity. just my opinion, but i for one can do without all the grief that mob will bring with them :( :( :( :(

I found it interesting what other ex pats say and think about our Udon Thani lets hope it stays that way ,
from C M T Udon for partying. LMFAO. Farangs in Udon leave to point s south when they want to party.

Farang food far more expensive than Pattaya with much lower quality and selection.

Girls. There isn’t a dozen pretty girls available in the 30 or so farang establishments. And prices asked are more inline with Nana showgirls than Soi 6.

Most bars close at midnight.

Beer prices about the same as Pattaya bar beers. Some more, some less. Average lady drink asking price is now B130.

Only one bar with decent pool tables.

No tourist attractions or sights to visit in the day.

Most of the population speaks at most 10 words of English.

Why anyone would make a special trip up to monger is beyond me.

The Lonely Planet didn't think much of Udon Thani back in 1998. I wonder if their views have changed now? Here's a copy of text from their Guide book:

I would just like to say that after five years visiting Udonthani on some fifteen seperate occations, there is absolutaly nothing of interest to do, eat, sleep with or visit 8) so to all those wishing for excitement, falang food, scenery to die for and women to die for, I suggest you go to Pattaya

i agree with aardvark, its gotta be the most boring place on the planet, nothing to do by day or night, the few bars are small and the ladies gotta be at least 40 plus, not a decent restaurant within 100 kilometers. i also suggest if your looking for excitement , stay away, but if your looking for somewhere to vegitate in your twilight years, welcome aboard. :( :( :(

Did a pub crawl long time ago in england small town 33 pubs, even half a pint in each was a struggle.
here would be nigh on impossible with a short and mixer per bar. to lessen the liqud.

I've just arrived hear, last night I was amazed how many bars and how few customers. Nobody shows their prices inside or out, but I just go righ up and ask, if to expensive I walked out. I was drinking that sanmigel light, we only have the pale in my local. The wife drank breezer, but I seemed to be able to find it around 65-70bt (sanmig) and 100bt (breezer). I don't find it expensive compared to UK. But how do all these bars stay alive most of the time I and misses were the only ones there. 1 foreign guy I was talkin to said there are now about 70 foreign owned bar hear in Udon
