That's had me puzzled also. I can't even get hold of his former business partner Steve (4 peaks residence), apparently he's returned to the UK also leaving an o/s bill.
I know Steve from when he was in jomtien and he had to disappear !! ,He was very surprised to see me when i was in Udon ! ,When he left jomtien he did not have a bean to his name and then all of a sudden he's got property and a estate agents office ! i was very surprised with his upturn in luck !!.
I was talking to a mate of his who lives near where I'm from in Lincolnshire and he was saying that a few people are looking for him from the Boston area and not just say hello either !

Do you know what, I'm beginning to wonder if anyone has lost any money. Very mysterious, people pulling the black and yellow handle and banging out to the PI, Boston, hospital, Jomtien, who knows? Do you think the Cops might be involved?

Is it possible for an ex-pat to transfer large amounts of money out of a Thai bank account into a foreign one?

There should be restrictions laid down by Bank of Thailand, can only be limited not all at once but house keys,as many as you like.

Only if he can show receipts proving it originated from outside. However there isn't any problem if your customers paid deposits into an account you hold in your own country on the premise you are saving them the exchange cost. :-"

Out of all this inquiry and banter about this guy,one thing is apparent to me, unless something untoward has happened to him, that is,he is not to interested in Udon at the moment, nor Udonmap,as he is not monitoring it ,or refuses to respond!!!

I would write this guy off as another ''character'' passing through the ''expat jungle'',not sure what he wants or who he really is,but focused on himself ,not ''servicing'' anyone else!

Until I hear or experience any negatives about FBI,he will be my preference if the need arises, just on what I have seen and heard in the last 6 years!Don't even know the man ,except to be introduced to at the Meeting Place in NK when I first moved here!

What is it with this town called Boston in Lincolnshire, business partners, unpaid bills,Jomtien connection etc?

Hopefully from now on sponsors should pay up front for advertising and then no more chasing of the bills.

Stan, seems like Udon is getting a few of these so called 'characters' passing through the expat jungle, more to come 'to be sure to be sure'.

Hmm, I could see ex-pats falling for that one but I can also see the flaw in that cunning plan.

davecryan,
I've not had the pleasure of a face to face with Mr Meadows, but your
description seems to resemble the pic on his Opfit's website:

Do you think you've spotted him?

It would be very well done davecryan, since this was your first post, if you have finally found him,do not get mixed up with people walking round with a long chain with what appears to be house keys on the end, tends to be prison officers 8)

Never got this excited since the unravelling of the plot of 'Who shot JR' all those years back. 8)

That is he..and I claim the 5 pound reward !....(.Lobby Low English newspaper 1950s)

Met him in Jomtien late 2006. A friend of mine was buying a condo there, Gareth and a female colleague, not the lady pictured, defrauded him out of 40,000 baht. With a craftily worded contract, he was conned into paying part of the VENDORS tax ! When challenged they refused to had over the chanote (title deed ).As we dont get much official assistance over here, he had no alternative but to accept the situation.
The office, from where they were operating from ,closed shortly afterwards. I never saw him again until I spotted him leaving Index, Udon, in Oct/Nov last year. That is why I asked for his description.
Incidentally, I have just returned from a short trip to Jomtien, where a friend of mine, who lives mainly in the UK, told me of another little racket, different Agency this time. During his absence, he was regularily informed that they were unable to let his condo. However on his return, he found evidence of occupation, further enquiries revealed that it had been let almost continuously from the date of his departure.

That solves the Jomtien connection, thanks for that. Now why do I hear rumours that he has had a braintumour, has been seen in the Phillipines and maybe Brazil.
Bloody bizarre but these conartists need to be found fast, now where did Steve from 4 peaks go again, unpaid bills but his sponsor page says he has 3 of his accomodations let on longterm basis,so has the money :-k
If only we had a picture of Steve. 8)

Strange though it may seem I believe that is standard practice in Thailand. It is certainly something to be aware of & include as part of the price contract negotiations. - i.e. I will pay X baht for the property, but if I am paying the vendors tax then I will pay X less the vendors tax for the property.
What I am trying to say (& doing so badly) is that unless the purchaser takes positive steps NOT to pay the vendors tax then he is liable...

I knew it will all slowly seep through, sure theres more,.....

Found this post from late 2008.....sounds very reassuring....are we sure its the same same person..
Thanks for the kind words and reccomendation Richard, I am pleased we were able to help and hope you and your lady settle in, we realise that there is alot more to starting a new life in a new country with a different culture and although we don't know everything (who does?) we will always do what we can to help make the transition as smooth as possible. (PS Ja isn't my GF (don't ruin her chances of meeting someone! ))

Also chaps don't forget the 'and land' bit, please don't confuse us with 'Udon Property'. Our office can be found On Adunyadet Road near Ruysuk Mansion (Map Ref O8). Also following the success of the last week at UD Plaza we will, in addition, be opening a satellite office there in the evenings within the next couple of weeks.

Please feel free to drop in and say hi. Little suprised by the cynicisim, is it so suprising that some companies pride themselves on putting customer satisfaction above profit? I realise that a good reputation is hard to earn and a bad reputation difficult to erase. I plan to be here for the long haul and I hope to build a successful business and enjoy a happy life in Udon and I see only one way to do that... the right, proper and honest way.

:yikes:

Anymore classics like that BM,at least he has put Boston on the map.
I am popping back to England in about a months time, tempted to visit Boston as a tourist, see the sites ie where the parents live etc, check out any local hospitals to see if they have anyone with a recent brain tumour etc.
Maybe ask some local estate agents if it is a good place for an investment etc
