New and Used Cars in Udon.

I've just been looking through the free ads section and noticed the little Mazda 3 for sale. At Bt440.000 and only 65.000 klm on the clock this would represent a bargain in my book. However, I noticed that it was powered by a 1.6 ltr Engine and if I'm not wrong here in Oz they come with either a 2.4ltr 4 cylinder or a 3.0 V6. I've noticed that a lot of Cars seem under powered and was wondering if this was normal or if there were just more choices in Thailand ??

Aards, just looked up the web site here in Aus and Mazda3 comes with 2.0 4cyl and 2.5 4cyl for the top of the range sp25. No V6. So that model might be correct.

I thought the one in the add a good buy as well.

That 1.6 Engine in that Mazda 3 will be plenty enough...2.0 or Bigger would be a bad move in that size of vehicle imo,1.6 would return decent MPG and is fairly low emissions..(unlike the larger lumps i would imagine, and thats what its about in todays world) and i also agree from the pic/text it seems a good buy...what its like up close could be a differant matter...but if its as it says then its good.

Actually it's quite interesting, I've just flicked through the Car section in UM free ads and some of the Cars and Trucks have been there for months. I just got myself a 2005 Ford Sedan here in Oz and paid $12.000 for it with only 80.000 klm on the clock. They were $36.000 new which means I only paid one third of it's original price. The trucks in Udon of the same vintage are about Bht 450.000 compared to their new price of 7 or 800.000 baht. I can't understand how they hold their price so well in Udon. Maybe that's why most people seem to invest in new rather than second hand ??

I think some ads don't get deleted so stay on there, not sure if the person placing the ad can delete or by sending a message to Lee is the route to take.......either that or they are still on the market and the sellers may take a big kick in the goolies just to sell.

The good thing about (what we think is an over the top price compared to our own countrys) buying used in Thailand is the minimal depreciation that happens on vehicles, is that when you want to sell it you will still see a good return on your money.

I tend to disagree about receiving a good return!the fact the the car prices don't seem to depreciate very fast is related to asking prices by dealers,most private sales don't come close to those prices!

There is a button at the bottom of each advert for the poster to edit or delete their adverts but some have trouble seeing it or forget to login.

Thanks for the interest. The Mazda 3 is in great shape. It is like new inside and out. I looked at used car prices in BKK, and the average price is BT 535,000 for a car like mine. If anyone wants to look, call Michael at 0878 543311.

As for the larger engine, I was told by a Mazda mechanic that the 1.6 was better because the 2.0 was too big for the engine compartment and there was a heat problem in some of the cars. I have no idea if this is accurate. The 1.6 is very fast. The Mazda 3 is a great driving car - very responsive, fast and really fun to drive. I rented a Toyota Corolla when I had all the paint dings taken out of my car two weeks ago, and the Toyota was not nearly as much fun as my Mazda 3.

I had planned to keep the car for the rest of my life, but my Philippina wife wants to go to nursing school in Davao City, so we are moving there. I have been in LOS for more than 20 years, but it may be fun to try a new place. I spent three months in Davao, while courting my wife, so I know the city and like it. There is no crime there, as the mayor has a policy of having any criminals killed. In the Philippines, the crooks always buy their way out of prison after three months, so it does little good to put them there in the first place. In Davao, the locals point out the bad guys to the police who then investigate. If the bad guys are truly bad guys, they are dead, courtesy of the Davao Death Squad.

I can speak Thai well, but I gave up on thai girls. I am old, 77, and I love younger women in their early 20's. Monaliza is 22. With young Thai women, any old guy who thinks he can happily have a young Thai girl is in big trouble. The younger ladies want expensive things these days, and think the Old Fart should supply. And the family will always want a new pick up, and new house, etc, etc. An Old Fart can find a middle age Thai with a child or two and have good chance for success, but an Old Fart with a 22 YO with no kids can expect trouble.

ML was raised by a very strict father on the farm. There was little money available. She never went on a date, ever. Father took her to the high school prom. The thinking of the Philippina is totally different from that of the Thai. My advice is that things have and are changing with Thai ladies, and maybe the Philippina is a better option these days.

Your Mazda does genuinely look good, best colour too imo, and its wearing Goodyear NCT's.!!!...always a good sign of a looked after vehicle, Good Luck with the sale, sure it won't be around long.

Top Tip add a few more photos to the advert...inside. rear view, angled etc.

But Thats a Mech point if veiw....and i would agree 2.0 would be too bigger engine for that vehicle.

I haven't heard of any problems re size or heat from Oz, where the Mazda 3 is sold with a 2 litre motor, as is the Ford Focus, which shares a common platform and other components with the 3.

I had a Focus in Oz, and the 2 litre motor was great - and certainly not too big.

Only after a very long drive with no stops........Top Tip always carry an empty plastic drinks (Not Gatorade) bottle just in case...or buy a She-Wee

Consumption was fine Aa - in the high 30s (mpg) from what I remember.

BM - in that case it was the mechanic having a lend of him.

I was reading the part about an old fart and A 22 year old.I'm 57 and would love A 22 year old.But to be realistic I guess I really should be happy with someone in their 30's are 40's.Are maybe older than that.About the used car business,if your patient you'll get something nice cat A fair price.
