Thai Style Ride on Lawnmower?

Post by Lee4Life » June 8, 2010, 2:40 pm

On the way to ChiangMai on our motorbike we saw someone mowing a vacant lot using a mower that appeared to be a local style ride-on mower, it was a front wheel drive machine somewhat like the Tok-Tok walk tractors they use in the rice fields here and it had a little two wheeled trailer with a seat on top of it that was towed along behind it that the operator was sitting on. I didn't have time to stop and ask about it, has anyone else seen a machine like this? It did cross my mind that it could be home-made.
Thanks,
Lee

I haven't seen that model before but while travelling between Chum Phae and Si Chom Poo I did see what could be a relative of what you describe. This was a push version

Seen these units (in pic) for sale new last week in Tool Pro, also looked at a brochure on a classy ride on unit much the same as you would get back home in Oz, headlights and all at Home Pro last week 176,000 baht and 3 week lead time for order

cheers

Yes, it was similar to the one in the picture except it was self-propelled and had a little set of wheels with a seat on top towed along behind it for the operator to sit on.
I checked at Tool Pro a few months back and found the same deal, about 6,000us for an english built mower, hard for me to swallow, same mower would be about 1400us in the states. I don't have any problem with paying more for something and I understand that the majority of the money is probably import duties, just don't have that kind of money right now.

The patipongmachine.com site says there's a dealer in Udon

I think it translates to
Asia Tractor (Kubota Udon)
299 Moo 5, Ring Road, tamboon Makkaeng, Udon, 41000

I've been wondering why the Thais don't manufacture something a bit more modern than the vintage mower in the first photo in this thread. I have one.......safe it's not......heavy it is......good for cutting a jungle, but not a lawn.

Upon closer inspection, those flimsy little white wheels on the front would last about 20 minutes.

"You Da Man!!", I can't believe you found it...that's exactly what I saw. The website shows a few attachments available, looked like a plow and two sets of steel wheels, one set for dry dirt and one set for the rice fields, also rototiller tines, a water pump and what looked to be a hydraulic pump.
sure would be nice to see one in action, this side of Pathum Thani that is!
