5 year Thai driving licence

Post by mickydee » August 7, 2012, 11:21 am

My one year Thai Driving Licenses both expire this month. What documents do I need to upgrade to the 5 year license ?
I guess it will be the same as before
Certificate of Residence from Immigration ?
Doctors letter ?
Fee ?

Any advice appreciated

No need for photos - they take them
Also : Passport
Don't forget to get photo copies of everything or you will have to buy there
Can get easily under AK hospital
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left

OK guys thanks for your help - some information for anyone going down this road.
I updated both motorbike and car on the same day (August 2012) so the paperwork and cost were double.
I needed a certificate of residence (2) one for each license, from Immigration cost 500 Baht each
For this I needed 3 copies of relevant passport pages ( Photo page and one year visa page)
Passport
3 passport type photos
Copy of house book and copy of owners ID

The License Office is located at the base of AEK Hospital mini roundabout. Inside the Hospital entrance (near the stairs)
Here, I presented my passport
2 Certificates of Residence
2 doctor's letters ( I used the clinic next door to Tang Ngee Soon supermarket, Phosri Road ) 30 Baht each
My 2 expired driving licenses
530 Baht per license
It was then a case of sitting for the photo and waiting for the licenses, a few minutes

I done the Immigration Office (15.00 ) and License Office (16.00) in the same afternoon so not too much hassle at all. \:D/

Thai bureaucracy gone crazy - apply for 2 licenses at the same time to (I assume) the same person, and you need 2 originals of health certificates, and residence certificates. ](*,)

God give us strength.

Just a thought - if you had a yellow book instead of a residence certificate for one license, would you need a second book for the other license? :-k

Hi,
When i got my 2 five year lic. I needed the med. cert, they supply the cert. and you have to get a doctor to fill it in, and sign it. Med., including waiting, took about 1 hour. I went to Pablo Hosp. Cost about 100B, 200B was quoted in AEK. They give me a good medical. Then all i had to do was to go to the driving center, about 20K down the A2 road and get my lic.
I took my passport, 1 med. cert. 1 cert. of residence. my two 1 year lic.. Everything had to be in triplicate. I took my Blue book, they did not even look at it. I must say i only got 1 med. cert form from the d.l. center, and made five copies of it, after the doctor had filled it in. They then take your photo, and the camera is linked to the printer that prints the lic. You have to pay your money before they print your Lic. out.
As this is Thailand it is best to go in the morning, and ask what THEY require. Can change every month. Then return later, that day, with all They said they required. Best way, IMO to go.

Has the price gone up? It was 300 baht when I got them at the first of this year.

Depends on which immigration officer you served by.

That's exactly what popped up in my mind too when I read this. 'Next they will ask for two yellow books and two passports!'
