Eh up!
I am tring to decide wether or not to bring my Acoustic Guitar to Thailand or buy one when I get there...
If anyone has taken their guitar to Thailand & can you please tell me if there were there any problems with damage in transit or customs etc?
Also, can anyone recommend a decent Music/Guitar shop in the Udon or Khon Kaen area where I can buy a half decent instrument and give me an idea of makes/manufacturers & prices - new or second hand is fine.
Many thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg
If you're Bringing your guitar there should be no problems with the customs providing it isn't brand new. There are a good selection of music shops in Udon who sell many acoustic or semi acoustic guitars at very reasonable prices (from 4000 baht) I bought a Fender semi acoustic for about 12000 baht. Most of the guitars are copies and made by unknown brands. If your looking at Fender or Gibson electric guitars (not copies) they are about the same price as in the UK. Most airlines will allow you to bring a guitar and not charge. BA put mine in a special wardrobe in the cabin area. As far as the climate is concerned you do have to be careful as the extreme conditions can cause warping of the neck. The strings have to be regularly lubricated as they will go rusty very quickly.
To sum it up I would choose to buy a guitar when you arrive unless you are intending to stay long term.
Send PM for any further assistance. I will give you my phone number

Thanks very much for your prompt reply matey - I had wondered about what effect the humidity and heat would have on the neck of a guitar brought from the UK.....I think I'll take your advice and buy one in Thailand as it sounds as though there's plenty of choice anyway - and I presume they are acclimatised to the conditions there - or do they suffer from the same problems?lepidoptra wrote:Hi Greg
