OK my end.
Sometimes can be slow or nothing at all, due to traffic.
Afternoons after the schools kick out is the worst time I've noticed.

Thanks Parrot,
Thats strange as I get the error message stating a site issue and that it should be available in a few minutes lol. Been getting the message for near on 4 hours. Have re-booted pc so I might do same with modem. Thamks again Parrot.

Kev I had the same problem, could rarely connect with Facebook, also YouTube and a few other sites. Then I switched from IE to Chrome and the problem went away (almost). I occasionally still have problems with those sites but not near as much. One thing I found is that once I log on to Yahoo, there is no way I can connect to Facebook unless I reboot. Don't know why, but then there are many strange things about the internet that defy logic.
Hi JimboLV
I use Chrome already and did all the rebooting of modem and Comp but to no avail. Went to bed grumpy lol
Woke up and all is well. FB access again and therefore access to War Commander.
Was down for 5 hours before hitting the sack.
Its OK now.
Thanks

Kev I think the problem, at least with my computer, is the slow connection. I frequently get timeouts on many websites, mostly the ones loaded with ads and graphics. With Facebook and YouTube it is probably made worse by heavy traffic.
There is NO doubt that Thai ISPs block certain sites when their traffic gets too large, or, probably, introduce some sort of 'maximum number of connections'.
I know this because it can sometimes be impossible to connect to a popular site using the normal connection but switch to a VPN so the ISP does not know who you are connecting to &, surprise, surprise, instant connection..
In the UK domestic connections to popular sites are deliberately slowed to less than the paid for rate at times of high load, so it is not just a Thai ISPs that play these sort of games.

Hi again,
Its funny that after I posted both Prenders88 and Parrot both logged on to FB with no problem. I play a game through FB and they all thought I had left our alliance because my base and depos all changed to another color while this FB drama was happening lol.

I post here so i dont have to start a new topic.
1. Why is it so popular
and
2. do UM-members use it.
If yes,
3. would you publish some of your private details???
Curious to know your opinion.
This statistic shows a timeline with the worldwide number of active Facebook users from 2008 to 2012. In August 2008, the number of active Facebook users was 100 million, while in March 2009, this number had almost doubled. It grew continuously throughout the years, with approximately 845 million active users in February 2012. Active users are those which have logged in to Facebook during the last 30 days. Furthermore, as of October 2012, the social network had 600 million mobile MAU.

I used to have a facebook account, but deleted it. For me it was just a waste of time. Plus all I could see was my nephew updating his latest score on games, a friend in Aussie telling me she'd gone shopping or to the gym, etc, and getting invites to other games, rating pictures, join as friends with someone etc. I have better things to do with my time but I know some people are addicted to it.

I opened a Facebook account after I noticed that some suppliers of goods and services offered special terms or additional discounts if you “liked” them on Facebook
When buying anything on the internet I always used to check the websites for any special terms like free shipping, discounts etc, I have now added whether being “liked” on Facebook provides any additional benefits to that list.
Facebook for me is just another tool that may help reduce purchasing costs – I don’t use it for “social” communication purposes.

My main problem with FB is that while you may not be communicating with it, it most certainly is communicating with you.JimboPSM wrote: Facebook for me is just another tool that may help reduce purchasing costs – I don’t use it for “social” communication purposes.

As I said previously, I deleted my FB account when I discovered that every time I went to a website which had a small FB "f" on it (eg look at the top of this page), Facebook knew I was there - whether or not I was signed in to FB.

Further to the above, a bit more which I just read about FB:
I just wonder how in 25 years people will come to regard the new "social media".
As far as I am concerned, the sooner FB goes down the gurgler the better - although it would soon be replaced.Disturbing Facebook pages operating with impunity
The ABC's 7.30 program has discovered a growing class of Facebook members that are using the site to publish content so graphic and offensive it will turn your stomach.
Despite the protests of other Facebook users, little has been done to restrict the offending pages and stop trolls from plying their vile trade.
And for all of its promotions as a place where people can come together to share, authorities say the company has been less than enthusiastic about addressing their concerns...................

I haven't noticed that happening to me but I rarely have cause to use FB and after using it I log out; additionally for security purposes, since identity theft on the internet started to become a major issue, I have adopted the practice of cleaning out cookies and running CCleaner every day (in the belief that would remove all the usual tracking devices).jackspratt wrote:My main problem with FB is that while you may not be communicating with it, it most certainly is communicating with you.JimboPSM wrote: Facebook for me is just another tool that may help reduce purchasing costs – I don’t use it for “social” communication purposes.![]()

In future on the rare occasions I use FB I will keep an eye open for any sign that BB from FB continues to watch me.
Does anyone know whether FB tracks its users through cookies or any other kind of device and how best to deal with any tracking?

Only if you agree with it, i think.jonny_w wrote:they mine your emails for information, and try to match you with other FB members to pyramid itself. Almost all websites track you with cookies.
About personal info, you can choose that only (connected)friends can see your page/timelines.
