Might as well start a thread and watch this place develope because it looks like it will be a permanent and pertinent addition to the neighborhood. Main area is adjacent to the lake (east side) and next to the big 7/11. There's an area being cleared and landscaped on the opposite side of the street. Maybe for parking? Don't know, it just says "coming soon". Word on the street around here says December opening. Maybe some of the more informed and "well connected" members can find out more definitive info about the opening.

Looks like it's across the road from you Dennis.
I've seen the pictures already on Skyscraper City, a Udon based Facebook page.
I'm just guessing, girly bars?
Looking at the pictures I'd say food shops, and box bars. In a landscaped setting similar to UD Town.
Won't be any parking after 5pm in Bannon Road when that project is completed.

Thanks Jon,
I can see it from the roof of my shophouse.
I wonder if the succes of UD Town gave the developer the idea to open on Bannon Road.
Loads of empty land around that part of town.
The last patch of land on the soi where our shop is is finally being built on. Apartments for students.
There are a couple of nice bars further along Bannon Road that will suffice.

Work continues to progress (sometimes a rarity in Thailand) and it looks like a December opening is entirely possible. Information regarding rental rates for the stalls remains sketchy (according to my wife).
And possible parking?:

Not really supprising as the Charoensri Family use to own the complex, the hotel, and the Chineese temple, and just about own Udon Thani. Their compound is just up the street from here on the ring road.

Dennis, stretch your legs a bit more and take photos from the back side, on the walking path along the lake, even more impressive to see what they are building at the back there.
Hard to imagine a return on investment given the land value, though if only factoring in the "new investment" then suppose it is OK with say a 5-7 year view, until they decide to do something different with the land. Have seen similar temporary land uses in Bangkok, eg the Suan Lumpini Night Bazaar was most recent and very nice for a while and now gone. And a decade ago the market on Sukhumvit Soi 10 prior to the now infamous Kuhn Chuwit coming in one night to demolish it.

I BELIEVE all the spaces are taken, but best to check for yourself if interested. They have an office open onsight. If you don't speak Thai bring your translator.jagemi77 wrote:Anyone know who operate the plaza? Need to get more information about the rental and type of activities...
What I thought was to be a parking area on the North (East?) side of the street has been loaded up with several big loads of dirt and a bunch of big wooden beams. So looks like more construction of some sort is coming.

Had to have a chuckle at that one BB
What on earth gave you the idea that ANY Thai development would have an area put aside for people to park?
Whats wrong with double (or triple) parking on both sides of the road?
All the "parking spaces" can then be rented out to people for stalls to make more money =D> =D>
We will worry about people not going there coz there isn't anywhere to park when it happens

Please disregard the above contact info (unless you want a job at this place). I should have had my wife translate for me first. The sign, pictured below, is advertising for help at the restaurant coming to the plaza. Looks like a nice place.BigBubba wrote:@jagemi77, here is some contact info for you:

The sign translates to:
The sign says:
Help needed urgently!!!
A new restaurant and bakery are opening in December 2555 in the Charoen Night Plaza (next to Nongprajak). Applications for a wide variety of full and part time positions are being accepted.
Cook and assistant cook (Thai food), 3 positions (9000-15000 Baht)
Male helper in the bakerty (cake and ice-cream), 2 positions
Staff to sell coffee, 1 position
Cashier 1 position
Waiter/Waitress 10 positions
Dishwashers 2 positions
Cleaners 2 positions
Interested parties can get more information by calling Khun Tdam at 090-546-1646
email: SweetGardenUdon@gmail.com
All these new businesses opening up are going to have to compete with the hundreds (many hundreds) of businesses advertising for workers. That may draw in a sizable addition to the existing population.

Looks like they are holding to posted opening date of 24 December. Although there are some areas that are clearly not ready and I don't see vendors in any of the stalls. Tonight there is a big party with stage show that I believe is for owners, employees, and their guests. It is really nicely done and looks like it will be a first class operation.
Still don't know what's planned for this area (across the street)
Obviously more work to do here.

Took a little walk around with the wife after we closed last night. Less than 20% of the vendors are open for business at this point. Most of what we saw was similar to other night markets, although perhaps a little more professionally presented.
Udon needs another coffee shop (not yet open) Here's a couple bars that are open: This place looks most promising. A combination bar/restaurant located closest to the lake and walking/bike paths, but maybe a couple weeks from finished: And Jun sniffed this place out quicker than a hog finds a truffle (sorry honey, I could have come up with a better analogy). This place is like the "cold stone" ice cream places I used to see in California. You choose the ingredients you want. They mix it with the melted cream, then pour it on the frozen surface. Servings are nice sized and start at 45 baht and go up with more ingredients.

I've yet to meet a Thai who imbibes in coffee after 2 or 3 PM (if that late).
I'll definitely give the "Marble Slab" ice-cream a try! Thanks for the update, bubba.

My wife and I had a visit there yesterday about 1700 stayed for awhile looking around, thought it was nice lay out and will be a good shopping experience when all is up and running. The shop's we thought had a upmarket feeling about them.
The coffee shop was open when we were there, also had free Wi-Fi which the owner helped me get on-line.

I guess Sweet Garden got the employees for which they were so urgently advertising. Offering an impressive assortment of cakes, pies, and other yummy looking desserts. Should be some stiff competition for "Cake Lover" just next door and only open a few months.
Give this little waffle stand extra points for enthusiasm!
