later this week it's supposed to go down to 11C... Coldest in a while.. If it stays cloudy with a bit of wind t'will feel colder still!

7.77C on 10 January 2009. Glad we had lots of fruit wood to burn that day.

I just started a new fire outdoors (sorry, Al). We'll probably keep it burning all night.

Lao Cai, Dec 16 (VNA) – Heavy snowfall and thick ice layer covered O Quy Ho Mountain Pass in Sa Pa district, the northern province of Lao Cai as temperature was recorded at minus one Celsius degree on December 15.

This type of weather, while not common, occasionally occurs in the highest mountains in the north during winter.

The snowfall attracts tourists to Sa Pa, causing congestions from the provincial capital of Lao Cai to the resort town.

From the height of 1,500m above the sea level, icy sheets were about 2.5 cm, while the temperature continued plunging in foggy and dizzy weather.

Earlier on December 13, heavy rains hit the entire Lao Cai province with rainfall of 30-50 cm. In Sa Pa , the temperature dropped to 5-7 Celsius degree.

According to the Lao Cai Hydrometeorological Forecasting Centre, another cold spell is expected to hit the province, making the locality even freezer. The centre also warned of strong wind, whirlwind and hail that can bring huge losses for local residents. (VNA)

For clarification, Lào Cai, is a province of the mountainous Northwest region of Vietnam bordering the province of Yunnan in China.

I first thought it was Laos but after a little checking found that it is in Vietnam.

Following yesterdays low of 13c things are likely to get even cooler in the next few days,according to the BBC website.
Tuesday,High 21c Low 11c
Wednesday,High 20c Low 11c
Thursday,High 20c Low 11c
Friday,High 20c Low 10c
Saturday,High 20c Low 9c

It will be a bit bracing sat outside watching the footie on Saturday night.....no chance of a white Xmas,though !

Fire buckets lined the street where we have the mini mart last night, fire buckets that are used as cookers back in village. Been selling bag loads of charcoal since Monday. The Small Boss says this is the coldest she has known in Udon. The vendors that normally visit the moobaan every morning have not turned up since the cold snap, neither the flower lady that sells blooms for the Hong Phra.

yesterdays cold drizzle had downtown traffic fairly light. The wife renewed her Thai ID card at Amphoe Muang office in about 30 minutes.. There were even parking spaces available there.. Later I found Marko relatively uncrowded.. Amazing how cool drizzly weather keeps em' at home...

Dont have a thermometer but the nippleometer said it was not as cold this morning as it was yesterday at the same time , Dao was only outside for a few minutes tho !!
