Train to Udon Thani, accomodation, workers. fitness trainer

I willbe landing in thailand on New Years Eve. I have been thinking about getting to Udon Thani by train instead of by air. Has anyone done the trip? Is it safe? Also does anyone know where I can stay in a place with airconditioning for about three weeks for something under 1000 baht?

As I will be having work done on my friens's land what is the going rate for a farm labourer, in the likely event that I will be employing some?

Lasly as I nearly always put on considerable weight while I am away from home does nayone know where I canemploy a personal fitness trainer, at reasonable cost.

OK, I'll beat the naysayers on this one. Why take the train when you could fly in one hour? Train trip is not an altogether bad one if you don't mind sharing the 1st class compartment with critters like a few mosquitoes, cockroaches, cheating conductors (watch their math if you order food/drink) and a 12 hour trip. On the plus side, take the overnight train and save hotel bill for one night, some people (me!) enjoy bouncing along the rails and find it easy to sleep to, and it's a relatively cheap way to travel if going 2nd class sleeper although 1st class isn't that expensive either. If going to Bangkok, catch the subway a block from the Hualamphong Railway station (thanks for that tip, BKKStan), a fast, no hassle way to get to Sukhumvit or other places in the City of Angels East via skytrain connection.

Air conditioning accomodations under 1000 baht? Charoen Hotel in Udon has all you need and located a short tuk-tuk ride from the train station.

I read it as 1,000 :bht for 3 weeks, not per night.

In that case, try the Udorn Hotel but, again, you might have to share accomodations with more than a few critters.

Day laborer :200 baht or a little less!

Fitness trainer:Read Muscle is a fitness trainer,send him a PM.

Places to stay under 1000 baht:all over the place,no problem!

Udorn Hotel is about 500 baht a night and its a nice place. I have done the 2nd class sleeper train trip over night many times. Its a good way to travel.

The Karin Hotel is also good and not expensive. It is reasonably close to the "hub" of Udon.
