TOT to far 3BB says....

Post by Baht Man » May 24, 2014, 7:54 am

I'm out from the Sakon Nakon hwy. about 4km. N.

A friend of mine has TOT but it comes with many issues and maybe 1 mb.
I'm further out and TOT says it would be worse at my place.
Even further out another friend has what looks like a small reciever on a 5m bamboo pole. He says it's TOT

3BB says to far and recommended CAT.

Ms. called CAT and was told 20 mb down and 3 up for 1065B a month.

Can anyone tell me about CAT ??

Thanks

My former neighbor at the shop house next door had Pop Pop Internet Café. He swore by CAT Telecom, said it was by far the best as far as speed AND reliability. Cliff, you out there somewhere to verify?

I have been running CAT for years now,no problem with reliability.Only problem is with the package.
I have a 5gb package per month once used the speed drops to 50kBps for the rest of the month.Which is ok for web browsing but very slow for movie downloads etc.
Initial cost is
the wifi router about 2400 baht when i purchased plus 800baht a month..Just plug in and go.
If you live within 15 klms of Udon central you should be ok to receive the signal.I am out near Na Di and no problems there.
I assume the 20mb down and 3mb up is for a cable connected supply?

My own experience with TOT, CAT, AIS is.....you can't much rely on someone else's experience with a comm company here......as there are far too many variables. Quality of the lines (look in the side of the road and you'll see many lines sitting on the ground), distance from the main line to your home, distance from the nearest network box to your home, quality of the actual connection in your home (hungry rats will eat the shielding on a cable!), as well as number of users being serviced in your particular area. Given your options, I'd splurge the cash and hope for the best.

Well thanks for the responses.

My TOT neighbor now says it's fine?
And about 700m before him the guy has had 3BB for 3-4 months, however it's location is still not on thier map so they still tell me "to far"

The build is not completed yet so I have some time.

And Big Bubba............1/2 lb. burgers? Are you serious. I can understand in TN. as I used to live there but in Udon?
What's your location??
Anyone??

I'm needing to put on a few more lbs. and can bring my own cheese..

I agree with Parrot. There are too many variables to depend on someone else whose experience is good or bad. For those who need to use an air card, it is pretty simple to find someone who uses an air card to to bring it to your house and plug it into your computer to test it before signing up for the service. I use CAT at home because I have no other choice. Other than Truemove-H it is the only ISP that has a signal where I am. Both Truemove-H and CAT can be good or bad. The service from both is up and down to say the least. I use Truemove-H in my phone and CAT for my computer. I think CAT and Truemove-H are in bed together and use the same towers. I can use my phone as a modem and there is very little difference between the two.

I live about 15km from the airport toward Nong Bua Lamphu. About 0.8 clicks off the main road.
3BB said out of their area
CAT said we will have to survey your location - 2 weeks later no survey returned to their office they phoned the survey team who said they would do it today. One week later no survey. Abandoned CAT
TOT done the survey on the computer while I waited. Said the first 300 m of cable is free but I would have to buy the additional 500m
Couldn't have the gold service due to the local restrictions so I signed up for the silver service
One week later I was on line
Just been in to their office and paid for another 6 months up front. About 300 Baht per month

If you have TOT and it is working, please do not change your homepage in Internet. As I know (may be changed) TOT does not yet support IPV6 protocoll and if your homepage is IPV6 using, it can take even 1-3 hours to connect to net. Changint to page, which still uses IPV4 protocoll, connects fastly and then you can go also to IPV6 pages.

It is the matter of establish a connection.

I had TOT in Phon Sawan. They did not suppurt more than 1 MB, but that crashed very often. They said that it would be better to upgrade to 3 MB even can not get all. After that no breaks and got about 2 M.

Just my experience.

The build is almost completed now and I've had a mounting post and two lines run to the TV locations. A phone line has also been installed to the room where the computer would be.

I'm anticipating a delay in hookup and will be connecting to someones unsecured wireless once I find one close via my laptop till then.

Thanks for the info.

What's the difference in using an air card or hard wired connection??

I've never needed the option of an air card.

Thanks

3BB came to our Nong Wauso neighborhood this week...Ran the wire on Saturday and the guy showed up this morning to connect it...Have fought with TOT for 5 years...My finally reading before we disconnected the TOT was 0.75M download and 0.25M upload....My first reading on 3BB was 11.9M download and 0.90M upload...A very happy customer...
