Never knew the fella myself, other than he was a part of this potpurri that is UM..
From his writings I sensed a stanch type of man, who believed in his convictions, wasnt afraid to speak out, who stood tall and proud of his Southern State roots, yet had a sense of humour now and then..
I myself as a biker of some 45yrs, salute a fellow dude for living his dream, and riding it all the way..
RIP Brother..

Sad news
Yesterday I lost a good friend, Udon lost a good citizen, and the world lost a decent and very colorful man. I didn't get the news until after 6PM. Neither Jun or I had Poom's phone number, so I called Neal's number and Poom answered. That's when I found out Michael, his son was on the cycle as well, and in Watana hospital. We got to the hospital before Poom got back. His little sister, Lulu, and another family member were there with him. He was conscious, but somewhat delirious and kept repeating the same questions over and over. He's really banged up with bandages on every extremity. Our thoughts and prayers are with him during this critical stage.
Neal started out as a customer, but over the last couple of years we got to be really good friends and Jun and I were out at his house for a swim on several occasions. He loved his music, and that noisy chopper, but I think most of all he loved to eat (and his waistline showed it). He was here at least once, and sometimes twice a week. Never out to impress anybody, his attire was just above what you'd expect to see on a homeless vagrant. Frequently when he came in I would say, Neal you don't have to dress up on our account! I hope St Peter's chef will make chicken fried steak and gravy for him. RIP brother. You are sorely missed already.

Very very sad news indeed, Neal and his family were customers and friends from the beginning. Thanks big guy for all your support and joy. I'm sure they let you play for DRINKS in the big band up there! I wish Neal's family all the best in these hard times, and hope his son Mike will fully recover. RIP big man.

Sad news
A very sad loss of a colourful member who had the rare ability to combine musical talent with politics and an ironic sense of humour (even if sometimes a little OTT).
It was particularly refreshing to have someone who took the time and trouble to provide links to factual sites (albeit, at times, somewhat slanted).
While not agreeing with all his views, I could respect them and I will miss them (particularly the humour that is needed to make the dysfunctional world of partisan US politics today semi-bearable).
RIP

Ashamed to be English since 23rd June 2016 when England voted for racism & economic suicide.

On behalf of Poom, (Neals' wife), I would like to express her appreciation for all of the messages of condolence and your heartfelt thoughts. I can inform you that Neals' body is now resting at his home in Ban Chaipun, however due to circumstances we do not yet have a definitive day for his final ceremony. I will post on here when arrangements have been made for those wishing to pay their last respects.
Michael has thankfully gone home from hospital this evening after discharging himself, and he will hopefully in time make a full physical recovery. Neals' eldest daughter, Maria, is making arrangements to be in Udon as soon as she can and will hopefully be here within the next few days.
Neal was my best buddy out here, my BIG Bro and already I'm missing him, it would have pleased him enormously knowing that he was so fondly thought of amongst his peers.
Stay safe y'all
Regards
Simon

Neal Crenshaw Funeral and Cremation
Poom called and asked me to post that services will be at Non Soong Temple tomorrow, Saturday, at 1PM. Not sure about the English spelling of the Temple site, but it's the big one on the highway close to Neal's house. Any help with a better location description and map would be appreciated. His daughter, Maria, will be here Sunday and chose not to see her father in a casket. Michael is doing well as of this morning.
Every day I wake up is a good day.

I don't about h his politics that is something I let each person have as they wish. I do know he was that kind of guy if he hadn't heard from you in a time would call and check on you, RIP

Will the cows owner be served his 200 baht fine by the traffic police. Life is worthless in the East. Could have been me. Such irresponsibility makes my bloodboil. The cows owner should be on a manslaughter charge. Civilised country by 2025, when pigs fly

Would not be surprising if the farmer is trying to collect for damages to his cow.

Some countries such as Spain permit their sheep to be herded in and out of major cities. I do not know if this is a common practice or not elsewhere. I would think India has something like this, and Laos certainly allows goats and cattle to roam the roads.dtammakhung wrote:Will the cows owner be served his 200 baht fine by the traffic police. I was in Laos on the way to Luang Prabang from Luang Namtha when the bus hit and killed a cow.
