Utility trailers

Post by Bump » October 7, 2005, 9:17 am

Anyone know a source for utility traliers or ball hitches. I have seen farm trailers locally but no hitch set up, no springs or shocks. Doubt they would be to good for road travel.

Ray i seem to remember reading somewhere of a farang down Pattaya way that makes such items.Try a search on TV.

Up here there is no limit to the size of a load, only weight, which i think is twenty odd tons.As long as you stick a red flag on the end of your load you can carry anything.

Ray,
I started a thread on that subject on TV. The opinions on the subject were inconclusive including legality.
I'm sure the last thing we want to see is an overloaded pickup with 2 layers of people in the back towing a trailer with another 10 bodies. IMO that is what will happen if the Thais catch onto trailers in light of the fuel costs now.

Bruce, you're right and the first people to do it will be the school run songthew ,which around here have children sitting on the roof.

I agree I'm just looking for a way to trailer my 750 for long trips since it is to big for the bed of my pickup.

Ray,you might try one of the many welding shops that seem to be able to knock up most things.

Yes that is a good idea easily could do that part but finding a good hitch set up seems to be the biggy. Searched the internet for ball and hitch setup no luck so far. I have heard that they may be available at True Valur Hardware in Pattaya, now there is a great excuse if I ever saw one

Got a little more time to work on this one, we had a pickup vs. motorcycle accident three day ago Pickup won  this is the first day out of the hospital. I'll add a intersting story when I have a bit more energy.

Ray, now I understand what you want it for. The Honda Distributor transports bikes (Waves etc.) throughout the Udon province using a pick up and dedicated trailer for small deliveries. It is a well made, white, flat top and has the correct hitch, lighting etc. I don't know exactly where he operates out of in Udon but seen him in Ban Dung many times, I guess it must be legal as it has plates (yellow I think). I have also seen a Toyota 4WD Pickup with a heavy duty Reese tow hitch on it. They are normally sold by dedicated 4WD accessory shops, where they sell winches, HD springs, shocks etc.
Be careful about having something made unless you know the quality of the welds and materials being used. Seen a lot of dodgy 'Cocky ----' being splattered onto metal here.

Thanks Guys right now I'm real glad I have those pain pills. it's going to before a bit before I know if the 750 will be rideble again. Yep the back took a real beating on that one. I'm supposed to have accupunture again today but just got out of the hospital yeterday. I wouldn't know where to tell him to start

This was an amazing experience, all positive, as to Thai bystanders, the hospital and the Police. So when I feel like I can actually write in a proper manner I will post the story,a lot of the negative mythes did not prove true this time. I'm very grateful to them.

Glad you are ok Ray. Don't know what you are going to say but when I have been hurt ar in trouble in Thailand I have never been disappointed in the way Thais help. The biggest problem is language. After that is over it is pleasant.

During my accident here all folks did is stand around and gawk. Think most of the reason is fear of lawsuits.

You know most folks that I have met in my travels around the world have been very helpful and decent. I have had some bad experiences but for the most part it has been good.

Either I am gullible or I think most folks in the world are really nice folks. Just try to apply the golden rule.

Drove into a ditch once, looked bad but no injuries.Must have been thirty cars stop to see if they could help.Eventually one of the guys got a mobile crane to lift it out and refused to take a penny.

Well I got to check out True Value hardware for the hitch thye hvae the ball but not the reciever portion for the trailer, sounds like I better make friends with the Honda dealer.

The bike is rideable got the repair done for 9500 Baht, amazing I'm not sure I could gotten a mechanic to look at it for that in the states.. Trust me it was a mess.
