Pulled into a large gas station for diesel this morning. About 25' away was a SUV with a westener with his Thai Lady. The gent pulled out of the vehicle a box of dry tissues and commenced to the clean windscreen. When I was leaving, the gent started to look at all the dirt on the vehicle and he motioned towards the dirt parts with the tissues.
Almost all of the large gas stations have the water bucket and brush for the windows, this station had plenty. Strange things you see up here, maybe he did not want to waste the water.

In my experience of late, most of the PTT stations have the buckets and old worn brush/squeegees but the buckets are empty.
Once in a while if the station give a couple of 1.5 liter waters with my fill up, I make a point to pour it in the squeegee buckets as a hint.
Not long ago the attendants would helpfully wash windows and in turn receive a small tip but lately not so much.

I fear the man who drinks water and so remembers this morning what the rest of us said last night

I reckon the valid point you're trying to make is lost on them. Another 'weird farang' moment to discuss over noodles? It would probably be even more weird to them if they knew what you do for a living.Potamoi wrote: ↑January 21, 2025, 7:57 pmIn my experience of late, most of the PTT stations have the buckets and old worn brush/squeegees but the buckets are empty.

Evidence, if ever such was needed, that Thailand has moved away from a service-oriented economy. But you're right, it does seem that the 'dek pump' dutifully washing your window while filling up has gone the way of the dinosaurs. Not long ago the attendants would helpfully wash windows and in turn receive a small tip but lately not so much.

well, the pump jockeys certainly would never get a tip from a Thai so that probably influences how they deal with most everyone including Farang..
