After moving to Thailand, what things would/do you NOT miss from your home country?

I could name a lot of these:

Rude South Florida drivers.

Hurricanes.

Snow/cold weather.

Higher cost of living.

Hip/hop music (?).

Soap operas.

Going to work everyday.

Property taxes.

Insurance companies jacking up their rates every chance they get.

Oh eck, I could see this transforming into one of those Marmite vs Vegemite arguments that I have seen so many times in the past

Heres a link for marmite (the brits version)

http://www.marmite.com/

and Vegemite, the (the aussie one)

http://www.vegemite.com.au/

they are both yeast extract pastes, and taste pretty good on toast ;)

Steak from Thai French Ok, so what and where is Thai French. Also might be helpful to know where the beef is from, plus grade. I have already tried the shoe leather from Robertsons.
Thai French Beef company has 2 outlets in Udon and one in Nong Khai, Grain fed beef from Sakhon Nakon. PM me an email address and I'll send you a price list and map.

OK I wont get into the Vegemite debate. That was a tong in cheek thing.

Thanks. That is some debate over on thaivisa. I just am looking for something once in awhile thats eatable and has a little flavor. And it sounds like this place will meet my needs. Thanks again. Now if I can time it right, a nice bottle of wine. 8)

The local farang teacher says there is good French wine to be had in Laos and you can pop over on Saturdays and Tuesdays to get it at the temporary checkpoint at Phon Phisai.150 Baht a bottle. The boat is 20 Baht each way and there is also a fee of 30 Baht i believe for immigration.

Secondly, PLEASE can somenone tell me of a good internet cafe very near to the complex? I'm using the Charoensri Grand connection and it's painful!!!!!
There is one opposite the shopping complex, or you can use the computer with ADSL internet access at the City Lodge, take a left out of the hotel and walk to the T junction, turn right and the City Lodge is on your left about 500m's.

have a nice time in Udon :D

Re the Marmite, Vegimite rivalry, following a blind tasting in England a couple of months ago of various brands, Vegimite came bottom, Marmite came somewhere in the middle & the winner is..................Tesco's own brand. Food for thought for the execs down at Tesco Lotus.
Personally i like both Marmite & Vegimite.

Think you mean the aisle just before, but they are the canned big (Texas Size) salted black olives, might also still have pits. Guess I will stick with the little onions. :?

FOUND TOMATO SAUCE

Post by igtm » November 25, 2005, 9:10 am

I finally found the tomato sauce. It's a BROOK brand whole peeled tomatoes in tomato sauce. I initially found it in Bangkok supermarket but then while I was in Makro the other day, I saw it there too. The problem is, the can was too large in Makro so I'm going to look for a smaller can in other supermarkets here. I also found tomato puree in Bangkok. It's from Singapore and is called Ayam brand tomato puree. The color of the can is yellow. I have not seen it here yet but saved a can so my maid can look for it here.
Thanks again for all your previous suggestions.

Hi ALL
my first post, been living in pattaya for 4 years. now out in the jungle (Na yung) looking for ankor new zeland cheedar cheese, again freindship supper pattaya, any where in undo sells this? big C and tesco don't. though after reading this site, Tops and macro will be next on the visit.

As for the items above from pattaya, Not cheap, a chese sandwich is not the same with out branston and a crispy pickled onoin and a bag of walker crips. :)
I go to pattaya/ have freinds come here and can bring this stuff up here if needed, same for yorkies and simple simons in pattaya. (yorkies roast beef is a must try).

at this point it seems this is the only option as from reading this site.
stuff from pattaya is not up here yet in the shops

been here for nearly a month and only have about 1 kilo of chese left so planning the next mission for falang food. ( mate comming up for XMAS so I am sending him on a shop for me in pattaya before he comes)

Any orders welcome, be warned, this stuff is not cheap. but I can show you the till recipit and you pay the same.
( :::conitions apply::: you buy the first round, i will buy the second round when we meet up :-) )

enough of this food. I must keep on searching for where to go out.
been to udon a few times with past GF's. Aussie bar and Mr toys was the only places I remember for the last vist.

met Justin, udon and pattaya, though I hear now he does not have aussie bar any more. But when I went there about a year ago I had a good time, drank them out of vodka ( red bull / lippo) and had a great steak out side on the BBQ.

A bit bored with jungle life after a month, so any offers for a beer and I will make the 100+ km trip to udon to see any one, sad as it seems. but It is an excuse to get off the rubber plantation

dazzadazza, Justin is still there at the Aussie bar, (the sale didn't go through) and it's as good a place as any to head for or meet up with other farangs. I go there a couple of times a week, albeit briefly, as does Lee and others.

Just shout when you are going to be in town.
