My first thoughts were same as Aaardvark... The ex is not really an ex. I've always found the opposite that the girl is very eager to take you to meet the parents and her old village friends. Also agree that maybe you are not the first farang to be traipsed through her village and she does not want to be seen as the village bike. Dating websites are a minefield. I avoid them like the plague.

A friend of mine is just gone back to Fahlangistan to let his wounds heal. He must have met every shark going on Thai Love Links and they all had a bite... Each bite took a large chunk out of his wallet.

Tread carefully. If you want to meet a genuine Thai lady just come here and mingle with the locals.

i've never heard of the"you can't go to the village"every one i know gets dragged
to the village wether they like it or not?so something is wrong,my gf was still
married and i was dragged to the village,although her x was in bkk,the fact that she took you to her school makes her story a bit more believable ,with her being a teacher she will be held in greater esteem than the average village thai,so breaking the news of a falang boyfriend to her parents might be quite stressful,
the only way you can find if she is trying it on is get a p i, if she is its cheaper and less stressful for you to know now.
and as i'm learning myself don't ever think you understand the thai way
of thinking. good luck

i want to thank everyone one this site. i know something was not right, i just did not want to realize it . the sreason she had to know i was serious about us was because this time i was coming into don to look at new homes. i have emailed her this afternoon teling her i would not be coming to see her . i have not given up on udon . i i hope to meet some of you guys. so if you see a lost american walking around udon in april it is me . again thank you for all your advise

Unfortunately, I have heard your story from other foreign men, probably a dozen times or so over the years. The culture in Thailand is very complicated and at times very subtle. It seems to me that there is nothing very subtle about what has happened to you as it transcends culture, it is the "con." An average village girl who marries a Thai man receives a dowry of about $300-500. A dowry is a once-in a lifetime windfall; you were giving that much to her every month. There is nothing to be ashamed of, we have all been conned here, myself included. I think you should seriously consider whether or not you want to get involved with a Thai lady at all. Thai culture is about as different from American culture as you can get.

As the saying goes, "don't walk, run!" You've gotta cut this one loose.

i am going to be ok . since i have a nonrefundable ticket to bankok i am still coming into udon . i sill do not know what went wrong. i had told her this time i wanted to stay in udon and look for land or a home in these predevelopements. my first post was askinking if i could open a bank account on a tourist visa. so i told her i would open a bank account in her name and for her not spend. i was in love . i was planning to bring 10,000. and the same every visit. i am not rich but my home and all the bills are paid. this way i would have money for a nice home in three years. so she knew i was serious. now i realize how stupid i was . you have to understand the women in thailand are a hell of alot more beautiful than the fourty year old in the u.s. my girlfriend was a looker. that is my defense. but i have learned , i hope next time i will be more careful, there will be a next time i want to retire in udon . thanks alot guys . i will email you about my trip i leave march 28 and will be in udon april 1 . i just realized what a time to arrive on apils fools day . i better be careful

You have just got a touch of Jasmine Fever, we all go through it in one form or another, Just be glad that you had the inclination that all was not well in the relationship, and you had the strength to do something about it.

You acted before things had not progressed to far, and you were not financially hurt to a great extent, unlike a lot of people that we all know about!
