You can usually tell from the packaging, not only the design on the front but the size, I'm not a smoker but I did used to buy and sell them on in the UK when I returned from Thailand before and some regular smokers knew straight away the difference before touching the box.
It's been a while since I bothered doing it though since everyone seems to be giving up!

I smoke Marlboro.
The ones you buy in Thailand are made by Philip Morris in the Philippines.
The ones you buy in Laos are made 'under licence' in Vietnam.
The ones in the UK used to be made there, but I guess they are probably made in Eastern Europe by now as the UK no longer manufactures anything!!!
However they all taste completely different to each other which I guess is the general consensus.

Marlboro 62 baht a packet most places, I haven't tried carton buying them in Lotus though.
Rob on the way back to UK the duty free at 'swampy' isn't a great deal cheaper. From memory it was over 500 baht for a carton at Christmas. It would almost be easier to buy a carton at Lotus & pack it in your case to take back with you.

I certainly intend to take a box back. Also a box or two for during my stay.

Occasionally, when my wife goes to Vientiane, she picks me up a few packs of Marlboro Lights, 35 baht per pack. She buys them at talat Sau(sp?).BobHelm wrote:I smoke Marlboro.

From the side of the package:
"Made under authority of Phillip Morris Products S.A.
Neutachel, Switzerland".
UPC code: 288692
Also written on side of package: "U.S. Tax Exempt For Use Outside U.S."
These are not the same ones being sold at the border.
She said they also have L&M's and other brands at this market.
