It would be ok if you could catch decent fish, not stinking rotten catfish. I do believe the local community down here call them 'sharks'. Saltwater any day of the week for me.

Do you have to pay for the fish you catch?

the prices are as follows
each rod if your own 500b
rod licence 1000b
bait 50b a bucket
food there also
beer there as well
rooms also available with aircon or fans,
if you need to hire a rod 500b each rod and 6000b if you loose it
i have about 10 rods that are free to use if with me on a trip, this will keep the costs down, all i ask is pay for tackle lost or broken, cant be any fairer than that

there is no need for more than one rod,to be honest one rod for 2 persons is more than enough, its possible to catch 30+ fish over 35 kilos each at one session,so if you built like popeye then you might be ok these fish will take anything from 20 mins to 1 hr to get in and these are the small ones, the siamese carp go to 250lb,the ariprima to 300 lbs,i am certain that whoever goes will get a personal best in freshwater fish
if you do the fishing through a guide at the fishing park then 6500b will be charged
im doing this because im well into fishing and i have bags of experiance, from years of commercial earning, now im doing it for pleasure and im willing to help people who want to do it but never had a chance,
call if you fancy a trip

Thanks Mike. It sounds like fun and what I was looking for. Have you tried hooking the Mekong catfish? I hear they are bigger than ****. I am in USA. Hope to be in Udon some time soon.

Ah no thanks, would rather catch a 5lb saltwater fish or freshwater trout and eat it rather than those stinking things. Give me a 15lb tuna or cobia in blue water on light gear anyday. Good luck with it.

im only using 3lb test curve rods and 25lb mono line ,and baitrunner reels, this is only light tackle and to land a fish you have to take care, its not just wind it in,like i said dont knock it till you try it,i enjoy a bit of sea fishing as well, and yes i agree the water is a lot cleaner ,good to jump into if its hot
this lake has a lot to offer, ive had people fish the river ebro with me who were in there 60,s and there pb was a 5 lb fish, you can water ski behind one of the fish from the bangsamran lake when you hook them, its good fun and something differant from the normal daily routine

Mike,

Sounds interesting, as it would be much cheaper than the advertised 'guided' trips. Pity i am still mainly UK! if you are still doing these trips next time i come, I am interested. I am trying to build up a list of fishing locations close to Udon (Any sort, from fishing for Java barbs for the pot up to catfish), so would be interested if you have any suggestions. so far i have fished 2 places, Saman farm and Orchid Hut. They are good for me because they are within walking/songtaew distance of town.

Rick
