Re: Supermarket prices out of control
Tesco 'bakery'.... I rest my case.
Pick of the bakery bunch IMHO is still Big C on Nittayo (flyover) and I saw a special on "French Butter Croissants" touting them at 12 baht a pop yesterday. However, I didn't see any of the buggers left at 2 PM so maybe all snapped up already?
...like pate.
Re: Supermarket prices out of control
I purchase very little processed food; mostly cheese, sausages, breads, sauces, and whiskey. Everything else is fresh vegetables, fruits, and meat killed during the night and purchased at the local market. While food is very important to me, the price is not very important. I'm going to buy what I want to eat. My wife talks about the prices. It's her habit, not mine.
Re: Supermarket prices out of control
I see the roadside Pork stalls, which have been selling at 100baht/ Kg, have now increased to 120.
Ok, 20 baht isn't the end of the world, but it's a big increase, when they have no overheads.
Went to Macro flyover yesterday, looks like CP are going for world domination. The shelves were stuffed with their delicious processed food.

Re: Supermarket prices out of control
Just to add a little to my previous post about the place on Panpraw Rd. Actually, not as large as I thought, but i see the shop has 'seafood' in its' name, so that's its' speciality, although I don't think the selection is enormous. Still, my wife assures me that the prices are well down from e.g. Makro.
Re: Supermarket prices out of control
I accept that's how we think but these vendors aren't going to be making much money for the time they put in. They won't be rolling in baht.Faraday wrote: ↑August 20, 2018, 11:11 amI see the roadside Pork stalls, which have been selling at 100baht/ Kg, have now increased to 120.

I often wonder how the hell the money was made when I see the depositors at a bank with the large piles of cash.
Hopefully legally.

Re: Supermarket prices out of control
A trivial thing, but the price of 3 in one coffee went up last month, and now looks like it is going up again. This is about a 10% plus price hike. Cannot understand why, as international coffee price has fallen about 20% in the last year ........
Re: Supermarket prices out of control
Yes, there's all sorts of 'priced to go' items from around 5 PM onwards especially in the bakery and fruit 'n' veg areas. Best avoided at weekends though as the parking and traffic late PM can be a bugger.

Re: Supermarket prices out of control
Big C Nittayo Road still had lots of boxes of McVities digestive creams at 45 baht yesterday, I didn’t buy any because I’m fat enough but the ones I bought last week were in date and fresh. They also had bags of mixed vegetable crisps and Nutella dips for the kids lunch boxes at 40% off, no I didn’t buy any of those either, doctors orders, he can chuff off about cutting out the odd glass of wine though.
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.
Re: Supermarket prices out of control
I was looking for them the other day and missed out but I was looking in the cookies aisle beside the regular McVitie's Digestives. Are these sandwiches stashed somewhere else?vincemunday wrote: ↑August 22, 2018, 9:05 amBig C Nittayo Road still had lots of boxes of McVities digestive creams at 45 baht yesterday, I didn’t buy any because I’m fat enough but the ones I bought last week were in date and fresh. Tell the doc there's plenty aging French people around as testament to the benefits of the odd (daily?) wine imbibe.

There's a rack by the rice and oil, top shelf. No I'm not a big drinker anyway, about every 2 or 3 days, I think it's just what they say, they all told me to stop smoking too, I don't smoke.

wine drinking only every 2 or 3 days is very commendable Vince =D> =D> =D>
perhaps if you managed to cut down from 3 bottles a time to one the doc may be even happier

Re: Supermarket prices out of control
Like I couldn't afford 3 bottles at a time! I just paid £40 for a poxy fruit juice wine box and although I can turn my hand to a few pints, particularly if it's London Pride or similar I'll ordinarily settle for 2 or 3 glasses, yes quite large glasses I'll grant you but it wouldn't be a full bottle, I don't think anyway....

Re: Supermarket prices out of control
Found the cookies vince, thanks. I always check that rack as there's typically some bargains to be had with the near sell-by date stuff but I missed the McVities. Still about half-a-dozen packs left.

Tesco Lotus in Khon Kaen certainly sells detergents, dog snacks and Lays at a higher price than Seven.

Went back to my little shop 10 days ago and bought 3 x Cartons of LEO in the Box of the stack (not Cold)pipoz4444 wrote: ↑August 5, 2018, 6:03 pmAgree Bandung-Dero,Bandung_Dero wrote: ↑August 4, 2018, 4:39 pmAll this complaining is BS! Simple supply and demand! If you can't afford it go elsewhere or do without. Business is what it is! The priority is their share holders and profit margin. EVEN here in Thailand.
BTW:- Last Thursday large Leo was 614 Baht in our local BigC (with their BS alcohol trading hours). 593 Baht in the local 'Mom and Pop' mini mart (200 metres away) NO enforced trading hours! Guess where I shop?
I too visit a little tin shed about 50 m2 in size and full of Booze, only about 1 km up the road. He is open just about every day of the year, have never known him to be closed. His trading hours are from when he is sober to when he is pissed (about 10.00am - 7.30pm) =D>
12 Large LEO in Box TB 585
12 Large Cold LEO from Fridge TB 610
1 Ltr Bottle Blend 285 about TB 312 (I think)or about TB 3700 per Box of 12
Can beat the service and its so easy. If you ring him his son will even deliver to your door step for the same priceReally cant see any reason to buy it anywhere else. Plus it puts the money in the old mans pocket (locally) and not in that of the larger Corporations. Its pays to spend locally, when you can, for their benefit, as much as ours.
pipoz444
Was charged TB 600 per Carton of One Dozen LEO's

That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.
