There are lots of hills in Isaan, tamada, such as in Sakon Nakhon, Loei and other Provinces in Isaan including Udon Thani.

Udon Thani is probably best known for its Archaeological wonders, paramount among them the hamlet of Ban Chiang where the world's first Bronze Age civilization is believed to have flourished more than 5,000 years ago.

Geographically, the province is located on a plateau which is approximately 187 meters above sea level. Most of the area is covered with rice fields, forests, and hills; the Phu Pan mountain range and the Songkhram River are the provinces two primary natural attractions.

Tamada, I do live on a hil, but to you truth is like the truth is as elusive to you and reality is.
But no never mind if you had studied the topographical maps of Udon Thani province ( big words may frighten you ), you will find that there are three main routes the wind follows only one impacts the town centre, which means often no wind / breeze affects the centre, which hastens the onset of higher pollutants hanging around . Only one road aka man made wind tunnel as it were is flatter than the others the KK Road, all others rise leading out of Udon.

My wife and I live about 50 kilometers south of Loei city near a village called Nong Hin. We are 1,000 feet above sea level, It is a flat area with mountains in view nearly all around. A very scenic place called Kun Ming is about 8 kilometers from our home.The price of land here, although not the best farm land, has gone way up since Thailand's major floods. We have no floods. There is a lot of new home construction around here. It appears that people value being high and dry. I saw a one rai lot on a good paved road suitable for building priced at one million baht. I laughed at that outrageous price but it soon sold.

with the better roads albeit engulfed with heavy traffic the upper middle class down in BKK can afford to have a "mountain retreat" home that is reachable within a day's travel. Lots of Thai tourists come up from BKK to visit temples and some exceedingly beautiful areas. Its doable on a long weekend..
