PLEASE leave the "vote buying" theme out of your arguments guys ........ you think this is the only place it goes on?
I remember the local candidate sending a limo round to take voters that they thought were marginal, to the polling stations in 1960's UK.
I have also been "treated" to several slap up meals by a Tory councelor in East London (over GBP200 in the eighties) all on his expenses to get my support.
As for the violence in a "peacful demo" ........ you Brits have short memories. The Thai leaders have only done EXACTLY what Thatcher did to discredit the miners in the eighties ....... put their own henchmen/thugs/off duty cops into a peacful demo to fire up everyone and turn a supportive public against them.

Glyn,

Did you read your post. "so a few came with sticks and slingshots". What about the other few?

I would like to know the source of your information, Master Shinawatras facebook page?

Does anyone have first hand knowledge about banks and shopping centers, such as Big C, Makro, etc. being open today?

The local shops on the NK road (beyond Tesco's lights) seemed to be operating as normal .......... not been into town yet.
Have to go to KK later (3rd day on the trot) ......1st day 6 manned police/Army checks in first 60km out of Udon, yesterday none ........today?
Only "incident" was coming back yesterday where one carriageway was closed whilst they cleared up the remains of what was presumably a pile of burnt tyres on the other lane.

The Government school on the Nong Sai road is closed today, per our housekeeper

Anyone got the phone number for the Udon Immigrations office? Time to do my Visa tomorrow. I will definetly go early, if they are operating. Hopefully what we saw yesterday was an expression of anger and we won't see anymore.

The number I got a few weeks ago for Udon Immigrations office is 042-931-687.

Yes, let's hope Udon can go back to the peaceful place it was a few days ago.

Glyn, that was the best account of the situation I have heard yet. Everything you stated was nothing but the facts and it is nice that some people can see what is happening here. I think too many people are only concerned about there own comfort and can't or won't look at the big picture.

" Are people really that nieve to think that Thaksin was the only one doing it.?"

The sad answer to that is, yes.

I went to Home Pro this morning and was told by the guard they would open at 10:30am, then went into town and the shopping cenre and surrounding road area was closed. Also noticed all banks closed, but did not get close enough to read some of the notices.

Let's hope it doesn't last too long as everybody, sometime, will require cash and bank services.

I believe the gov instructed the banks to close for to 2 days, probably reopen over the weekend. I don't know if this was applicable to shopping centers or if they're doing it on they're own for fear of looting. I saw one 7/11 shut down last night just after dark. My kid's school is closed until Monday.

Curfew for 3 days, banks open as usual Monday as with the schools.
Central Centre Point and UD town closed....curfew from 2100 to 0500.

Sit tight and enjoy a short holiday.

We just returned from the new Tesco, everything was open except for the banks. I got as much money out of a SCB ATM as I wanted. Food court was full, etc.
Tang Ngee Soon and Carrefour were also open.
Government Fitness College is open as is the tesaban in Nong Som Rong.
The boys usually manning the sentry post at the army base in Nong Som Rong have been replaced by men holding serious looking arms.

Thanks for the info. I was interesting in getting to a bank, but I guess that can wait a day or 2. As far as I am told, Central Plaza is closed, but I have not seen it for myself.
