And you presume the windy up guys are referring to a food, not the home of her Majesty, The (British) Queen Mother. God rest her soul.

Among the hundreds of things Scotland introduced to the civilised world. Was it not called India Pale Ale back in the day. Brewery was just down the road from me growing up before sold to some English outfit.

You're not wrong Alex, it was my preferred beer but not easy to find in pubs. I've kept a can though for that special occasion.

Jeez Tam, thats a relic of days gone by. That can must be all of 50 years old or more. I can only remember the classic red and black cans that are still sold today. Thats a collectors item these days.

Indeed IPA did originate from Jokland ... there after refined and made drinkable by the English and used as Navy rations for the boats that sailed to India which in those days was part of the British Empire ... henceforth named INDIA PALE ALE.

India pale ale now forms the base for just about all craft beers being produced with the brewers just adding a flavouring a stupid name and a silly price... DM not a craft beer fan the more local and Traditional CHANG does the trick for me tho must admit i liked the Wexford yesterday.

DM,
The original and best IPA was brewed in Edinburgh up until the later stages of the 20th Century. The McEwans brand was bought over and the brewing operation(massive brewery in Fountainbridge) was moved to somewhere in the part of the UK that clings to Scotland's rear end.
The reason there were so many breweries in the Edinburgh area was the natural spring water quality produced a very good beer.

I tried some of this while I was in Savanakhet last march and smuggled half a doz back into Thailand... all gone now of course. Quite pleasant but like most of my Beer Lao episodes, a pleasant change aka a short-lived fad. On their FB Thailand page, it shows some places in Bangkok stocking it now so maybe check on the shelves at Villa?

Just remember this when Mrs. Tam is pleading for more cash to buy the size 18/20 clothes that most North Eastern Scotland Quines need because of rowies and onions in the pies. ;) :-"
