So the immigration arrival card you, on which you have to put your address when staying in the country, is a complete waste of time then?

Exactly my thoughts!
I hope I die in my sleep like my grand dad did, not screaming like his passengers

Yes, it's just a duplication of effort like so many other things in Thailand. They possess the technology to follow a falang on their computer networks with great ease, but unfortunately the right hand never knows what the left hand is doing in Thailand, and they could give a flip less. They can take the simplest task and make it extremely complicated. I guess the inefficiency is actually job security for most!
Colossians 2:8-10...See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ. For in HIM dwells all the fullness of the GODHEAD bodily; and you are complete in HIM, who is the head of all principality and power.

Like most things here it is more noise then action. When your not doing anything got to make look like you are, for the pay check. There is always some off the wall things comes up and fades away.

I wouldn't concern myself, the trick here is don't tick off your neighbors and you won't be reported.

I went ahead and did my annual and 90 day today. Went smooth, no tips asked for no payment for copies. Only thing I noticed different then before, was they stamped each copy I gave them and I had to sign them. The were efficient and courteous.

Yes there were farrangs there that were having problems. I did the same thing I do every year. The officer got confused on the embassy letter that it was annual salary. Once he saw it was monthly, no problem.

When you have a 1-year NON O visa (marriage), is it TM47 you have to use every 90 days or is it another form?

I was at Immigration in Udon on Wednesday, May 1 at 13:00 hours sharp. Me and some other guy with his Thai wife. Did my 90-Day report in record time -- maybe three minutes. Other guy had some other issue.

I was supposed to do it on the 6th. But, that is a holiday, so no way did I want to do that and annual on a day after a holiday. With the amount of farrangs I have seen there in my last few visits must be a bunch of us here. Several of the guys were there to extend their tourist visas. No idea how lengthy that is to do. They were effecient today. Processed a lot of people in the hour I was there. Most of that time was sitting and waiting my turn.

It went well no complaints. I will go further they did a good job.

FYI, also found out this year that you can do your 90 Day Report at any immigration office in Thailand. The officer told me this during one of my efforts to get it done early before a long big bike trip.

While Immigration office is being discussed could some one tell me how long my bank letter stating I have 800000 is valued for .as I am always stressed waiting for the bank to open ,rushing back to immigration and being told sorry closed for lunch. I have been under the impression only valued on day of issue. Have I been miss in formed.
Many thanks if I can be advised.

As with almost everything else in Thailand, my experience today could be different than yours -- today, tomorrow or any day thereafter.

Some are accepted same day only. Others get latitude. Much of it is luck of the draw.

If you go to the immigration office in person they will give you the TM 47 to fill out.

While doing my 90 day a week ago, I noticed the forms to report a foreigner staying in a home. The form says the form is to be delivered to immigration or police, depending upon circumstances, within 24 hours of the arrival of the foreigner. So I took a form home.

The day after I returned from a short trip to Bangkok last week, I took the form to the immigration office and handed it to the fellow who handles 90 day reports. He looked at the form then asked "Why are you doing this?" That might have been a hint that this was an unusual act on my part. He made photocopies of my yellow housebook and my passport, had me sign them, then after filling in some missing information on the form, he said "copies 20 baht", but he would not accept the money when I tried to hand it to him, instead indicating a tea box with its cover removed sitting at the corner of his desk. I had to chuckle, he smiled back.

Stamped and stapled into my passport, that brings the count to three pieces of Thai paper stuffed in there. Oh, the glorious redundancy!

I figure the potential benefit of registering is that there is one less thing that could be cited as a problem somewhere down the road. By the way, the young lady at the table at which people fill out forms sent me to the cue for having applications processed, but the 90 day report desk accepted it and was much faster than the application cue.

I would think all the times you renewed and did ninety day reporting would have met those requirements. No harm in making sure though. The guy pointed at the tip bowl once with me. I just didn't put anything in it. I think at the time it had something to do with a Wat. I got that more then covered at the local Wat [-X

Along the same lines, I have begun to wonder about my arrival card that is folded up and stapled in my passport. Mine is looking pretty raggedy and is started to get pretty flimsy. Has anyone had the experience yet of their arrival card just breaking/tearing into pieces? What happens when it deteriorates beyond recognition?
