When I got my new passport the American Embassy lost mine. The Thai's issued a different kind and put it in my new passport. a minor fee involved. I was worried about it as well. But, nothing earth shattering.

Did my first 90-days reporting today. Had written the form on my computer, printed and signed at home. Took less than 10 minutes from I entered the Immigration to I exited again. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

You can download, type in details, and pre-print most Immigration forms from this site:
http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en ... e=download
I did so today with a Re-entry permit application, with no problems at the UT office.

Not in Nong Khai. I renewed my 5-year license last month. I showed up to the License office with my yellow book. They sent me to immigration.bumper wrote:If you have the Yellow house Book you can get your license without going to Immigration. If your going to be at a location for some time a good thing to have.

That can be very frustrating no office seems to do the same thing. That would seem to rest on Motor Vehicle department this time. But, I haven't renewed in three years, so it may have changed here by now. Who knows.
It not only changes by office it changes from person to person.

That is why I try to be prepared for any eventuality -- extra copies, documents that are related but never asked for before, etc. I bring just about everything.

That is how I deal with immigration, it's only once a year. This drivers license thing was a mess years ago, which is why I got the yellow book. License place was requiring a letter from Nong Khai Immigration and Nong Khai said they didn't do that. I didn't get caught up in that one but a lot of people did.
The departments don't even agree with each other and many times we end up in between. Nothing is etched in stone in Thailand.
At one point the only way you would get a five renewal was to renew on the exact date. Other wise they would only give you a one year. I think that has been changed/ MAYBE![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)

If it's any consolation, the Thais get jerked around and frustrated with changing rules just as we do.
My wife was also under the impression you had to renew on the exact date of expiry. Several of our neighbors agreed. I asked her what the policy was if my date of expiry was a Sunday. She got mad and went shopping. I got my license three days before it expired.

It used to be that one could not renew a license while still valid. That policy has changed and in effect for sometime now:Quanteen wrote:If it's any consolation, the Thais get jerked around and frustrated with changing rules just as we do.

Did my ninety day today. I was told after this one, I don't have to do the form anymore. The information was put in a computer. Still have report every ninety days with your passport and your address written out on a peace of paper.
I noticed the paper they placed in my passport, has a bar code on it.
Until you are told individually I would plan on completing the format least one more time.

A few days ago, for the first time, I filled out the form at home before going into the Immigration Office, and the person who helped me with the report simply said "You can forget about these forms now." You might be asked to fill out a form, but I wouldn't fill it out until asked to.
That makes me wonder a little bit whether the process of reporting by mail will change. Maybe now that they have their computers and database together, it might make that simpler.
Idle speculation aside, I have an income letter from the U.S. Embassy (to support my application for an extension of my visa based on income). The letter was written in January while I was in Bangkok on other business. I asked whether the letter would be acceptable in a couple of months and the two people in the office who looked at it looked at each other and said in Thai "Old already" and told me that the maximum age of the letter is six months, thus confirming similar reports in this thread.

That is not real good news. Have to watch the embassy visits closely.

Notice that in 2013 there was an outreach visit from the U.S. Embassy on March 6 and one scheduled for September 18th. That means that in theory it will be impossible for Americans to renew based on income between about September 6 and September 18th unless one obtains the letter in another province.

Rick... please refer to my post on June 5. http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/#p331806
It is from the US Embassy, confirming Thai immigration (Bangkok) change of policy & instructing all offices to accept letters up to 6 months. The actual instruction in Thai is attached so you can print it & take to the office. MAYBE things have changed since June 5 but more likely the officer at the Udon office isn't aware.
