Khun Aardvark, you should know that I would never swear on a public forum let alone in public.
Those last four words, 'baw pen yang dawk' are the Isaan/Lao equivalent of 'mai pen rai khap'.

Re: conmen in UT
I was never really a fan of sitting with men dressed up as women. I like my women to be feminine with all the right bits in the right places. Unlike some that fancy a trip up the Hershey Highway now and again. Pretty much on topic as it is a bit of a con for some guy to pay another man for sex thinking he is a chick only to realise he really is a dude. Unless he likes to pack a bit of fudge too that is.aznyron wrote:lee because your sitting with a lady boy and they know him

Hersheys, fudge: impressive use of imagery Lee Rhodes and not bad for an American.
We are speaking of confidence tricksters aren't we? People who talk you into parting with your hard earned cash or otherwise (as you said, chaps in dresses pretending to be girlies). I'd be wary of Farang con men in Udon rather than Thais (although they're bad enough) - especially after the events of the previous few weeks. Udon could be perceived as an ideal spot to con ex-pats because it's off the tourist track and has plenty of retired well-off Farangs. The BiB don't seem that proactive either.
Just an opinion.....

Re: conmen in UT
the good times are over so now the cons begin to surface as the saying go buyer beware
that implies to paying bar fines as well you never know who you are bringing home
with tourism down exports in the toilet what is left for a Thai man or women got to do to feed the family
what ever they can do so expect the worst this way you will be ready when it happens and it will happen

Re: conmen in UT
There is a tooth whitening clinic opposite the central bus station on the other side of the road. I got my g/f to go in there and ask how much it was to get your teeth whitened, she was told 45 minutes was about 5-600 baht.
I went in the next day and asked the same questin and they gave me a leaflet that said three 45 minute sessions were about 12 THOUSAND baht.
I asked my g/f if she was mistaken at the price they gave her, she said she was not.
a big rip off going on at that place

That's not confidence trickery, that's overpricing, there's a difference you silly old sausage.udonchappie wrote:I went in the next day and asked the same questin and they gave me a leaflet that said three 45 minute sessions were about 12 THOUSAND baht.

Re: conmen in UT
Oh yes, it's bound to be a surface area costing, a dentist could use up his whitening materials in no time.
So not really a confidence trick, UC - more like a valuation based on amount of work required.
Have we met before, Udon Chappie?

Re: conmen in UT
I'm not sure this counts as a con. Let's just say I had my doubts.
A few weeks back, I'm shopping with my wife in Tesco's. Out of the blue, this late-twenties? guy rushes up to me. He asked me if I was English and by his accent, he was too. A bit scruffy, looked like he'd had a few, or was 'on' something. Did i want to buy some visus? - or some similar name, which I cannot now recall and had never heard of. He said it was same as viagra. My response 'I don't need it'. [-o< He disappeared quickly in the opposite direction, leaving me rather bemused.
I guess he looked at me and my young wife. I didn't really know whether to feel chuffed he thought I was capable, or sad that I might need help! :-"

Re: conmen in UT
Yes Brian, your supermarket scenario has the trappings of a possible confidence trick as your tablets could be just soap powder, leaving you foaming at the mouth without a hint of arousal in your trousers.
Good call...

Ron, have you a name/number for your electrician? I need some 'hot' work done this week.aznyron wrote:... the electrician who wired my house and sold me two A/C units is one of them who will get all my work when needed.
cheers
Re: conmen in UT
B5-600 for a cleaning while not a cheap price is in normal price range. B12,000 would be in the higher average price range for teeth whitening. I think this is a mistake in your gf's listening/communication skills not a con job. Not that your gf isn't perfect in every way because I'm sure she is. :-"udonchappie wrote:There is a tooth whitening clinic opposite the central bus station on the other side of the road. Re: conmen in UT
I guess you have to bear in mind that most Thais have very clean white teeth and whilst to get them to be pearly white might not take much work - If (for example) I was to walk in there with my yellowed coffee stained bloody awful excuse for teeth - I would hardly expect it to be the same price. It would take much more work.
In fact one very honest dentist refused to take on the job - he said the difference (if any) just wouldn't be worth me paying out for.
So don't be too skeptical - not everything costs the same for same same na![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: conmen in UT
I wouldn't think there is anywhere in the world that could manage to do it (Whitening) correctly for 5-600baht for 1 45 minute session.
