The following link will provide much food for thought if you intend to purchase a sidearm as there are many good reviews to read, the pricing is somewhat cheaper than a shop dealer so don't be surprised when you enquire with a dealer in Thailand that the price can look quite high, particularly if you include a gun safe, spares, ammo etc.

The OP's question was about the cost of a gun, not the why's and wherefore's of using one. It strikes me that he could be a troll anyway, in which case he has rather achieved his objective, drawing everyone into a debate about the why's and wherefore's.

loong Lee,
I didn't say I wouldn't go to any length to protect my family, but if it came to the point that I had to have a gun to do it,it wouldn't be a place I would want to live, and it would be time to find elswhere to live

I do not think everyone was drawn into a debate and the OP has had several answers that provide answer(s) to his question troll or not, why other members choose not to answer the question asked is for them alone.arjay wrote:The OP's question was about the cost of a gun, not the why's and wherefore's of using one. He asked about the cost of a gun, and where he could buy one and if there were any gun shops in Khon Kaen, even though it was posted in the Udon Thani General topics forum.
Not about US firearms policy et al.
I wonder do they have any in Mumbai.

..And the OP hasn't commented since he made the OP. Perhaps he doesn't get much free time in Mumbai.
I wonder why he didn't post his question on the KK forum?

Particularly as he has been online for the last 45 minutes, maybe he's got the Mumbai belly and can't get out of the shitter! Maybe the KK forum doesn't bite as easily. :-"arjay wrote:..And the OP hasn't commented since he made the OP. Perhaps he doesn't get much free time in Mumbai.

having read many of the comments, I found a couple that made me smile, but first, I know that in Thailand as stated Foreigners owning GUNS is a big no no, so no matter what the provocation using a gun is seriously serious and the backlash is not welcomed.
Firstly Guns should be used by professionals, well in my estimation that rules out at least 90% of Thai military and probably most of the Police as well.
Second was put your trust in the Police another really dangerous error in that statement, but it is what we have so we must I suppose make the best of it.
personally I feel 32 and one half inches of her majesties Steel does the trick, no licence and although it slides in easily, pulling it out makes that gentle squelching noise as the majority of the organs impaled collapse due to the gap left, nothing like a bit of steel to settle a problem as well as a very large evil dog, seems to pale into insignificance the need for a gun i feel .
But then if you want a gun anywhere, the question one must asks is WHY?
many ex-servicemen from the Western World have experienced and taken part in conflicts and know too well what guns can do and most will have used them as well, In reality it does take extensive training to be able to shoot someone and even with right on your side you are still reflective over the event and many still to this day think about what they have done albeit legally ( or so their governments say ).
So owning a gun if not in your line of work, Law enforcement or Military is always questionable, but for sport okay with strict controls as to where and when . otherwise we could sink into anarchy.

It amazes me that so many posters don't seem to read the OP and try and answer the questions in it, but instead ramble on debating a different subject.
This isn't a gun debate, it was a question most probably by a troll about where can I buy one and how much might it cost.
Please read posts on previous pages.

Have to agree with many of the posters, since asking which type, model gun, I assume you have little or no experience with handguns. So except in the most dearest of situations, it may be more dangerous to have than not. Though that expression, from USA, “Better to be judged by 12, than carried by 6”. Seriously, if no experience, guns can be a negative, as chances are, you will never use it for self-defense, especially in the only place legal, your home.
Good advice given, if for wife, or you, since inexperience, a revolver would be the better choice, point and pull, no safeties to worry about, or chambering a round, or dropping an automatic, non-Glock, and having it go off. If hell bent on an automatic, Glock would be my 1st choice, as no external safety to worry about, it is integrated into the trigger, finger not on trigger, the gun will not go off. High tech piece of machinery. I’ve had many. If for you wife, the “Lady S & W” is a fine choice, as made for smaller hand, or as advised, a hammerless revolver.
Either, buy lots of extra ammo, and practice shooting, making sure you have a back stop, at a gun range, with proper safety. The use of the gun should come natural, or you will hurt yourself. If you decide to use it, DO JUST THAT, USE IT, don’t hesitate, shoot center mass, and shoot to kill.
Had guns all my life, didn’t not hunt or target shoot. Simple home and self-defense, very proficient with them, and never needed, though nice to have. If children in the house, I would advise against owning it, if children visiting the house, I would advise against it, if not in a very stable relationship, I would advise against it. Reason, with children around, the guns, they should then be locked out of sight, not in a glass case, leave your ego elsewhere, which defeats the purpose of having one, locked and no easy access. Never had kids when owning a gun and it was under the pillow, again, never needed it.
The debate for gun ownership will be never ending, I’m in favor, simple, won’t be swayed and don’t have to explain why. Understand completely why others are not in favor, also very simple.
Cost, the Glock run a little less than 3 times the cost in the states, outrageous.

Oh I agree Posters do not read the POS T where to buy a gun, the question to most foreigners is irrelevant as we cannot legally hold a gun licence here so in reality no need to find out where to buy one is there.
Possibly a troll also but it has stirred up many a good and bad point.
personally the post is a non-starter, but then so many are really aren't they !!!!!!!!!!!!

The way to buy bullets isnt so easy....if you buy them legaly!
1. Above your licence for the gun you have to have OK from the nr 1 man in Amphur, that means he signs and stamp a paper for you wich gives you the wright to buy 12 bullets.....the stamp on the paper coasts you 1 bath......and if nr 1 man likes to have more then this 1 bath.........its tee money.
2. You can only buy 12 bullets legaly even if you have license and paper from Amphur.
3. The coasts for the bullets are very expensive in Udonthani, exampel....bullets for a 38 special is 60 bath each. So, 12 bullets is at a coast of 720 bath.
Regards Kjell
