Parrot did you need to bring your own photo?

No need to bring a photo. They take it there, just like Thai ID cards.bumper wrote:Parrot did you need to bring your own photo?

For the last 4 years I have used my Thai driving license for Domestic flights and hotel check in, no problem so far, I never take passport with meBLT wrote:I used my pink ID card recently as my check in ID when I flew from UDT to BKK. It has been useful a few times when I have been trying to set up a delivery, as it has my address written in Thai.
As far as carrying ID, I still carry a photocopy of my passport (info page and current stamp page) around, and carry my actual passport when I'm staying away from home. Unless you are dealing with immigration cops specifically checking on your status, you don't need your passport on your person at all times. Carrying a copy of your passport while your actual passport is safely tucked away has been the standard here for a long time. The last time some cops down in Bangkok tried to ticket tourists for no passport they were set straight by their bosses fairly quickly.

Who checks the blood group?joepai wrote:Agree a waste of time for 99% for foreigners - as a driving license will do exactly the same thing - however I might think about one as I have been told it has ones blood group on it and yours truly has a silly blood group (saves carrying around a bit of paper with it written on)

Nobody checks the blood group. They ask you and expect you to know.

Not if you are unconscious. If so, and bled out a bit, I'd like them to know before giving me the wrong type. Especially being -0- type, can give to most, but not receive from others.colt1911 wrote:Nobody checks the blood group. They ask you and expect you to know.
And yes, the card is a bit redundant, and seems the only relative info transcript-ed over, is your house book ID number. Beside name/address/DOB/issue/expire dates. No other info from sources provided make it to the card.
BLOOD TYPE is NOT on the card, though it may be in their records and unless integrated into other system, a bit useless.

You are a very brave Doctor to request blood asap without even a simple cross match.
The fact that people carry multiple means of ID for their blood group is perhaps reassuring for them, but clinically they are all but ignored, except in the military where a very well documented, procedural practice in a controlled clinical environment is maintained.
Emergency Departments have small cross match units available, meaning a result is given asap, does Udon Public and Military hospital have these ???
If the Thai Red Cross could tap into the info on the card , that could be a reason ?

Got my pink ID card last Monday at Amphur Mueang, Udon Thani opposite the Thai Passport Office. All I needed to present was a Xerox copy of my passport, Thai driver's license, marriage certificate and yellow book. The originals were never inspected. Copies can be made at the office directly next door for 1 baht each. Don't go before 3 PM because they don't switch over the computer software to process these expat ID cards until 3 PM. They'll ask your blood type and take an electronic print of both thumbs. They'll take your photo with a height measurement for the ID Card, but you can't smile. I wear glasses but wasn't told to take them off. At the Udon Immigration last week they wanted me to take off my glasses for the photo shot...so makes no sense to me...absolutely no consistency with the various government offices. Paid 60 baht, signed one paper in two places and was out the door in 20 minutes.
Can't see any useful purpose for the card, but can't see any downside to having one except that now they have my fingerprint in their system. I don't plan on committing murder or burglary in the future, so I guess that won't affect me.

It depends on the persons age. Under 60 every 6years, over and it's for the rest of your life. Both Thai and pink card.
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

Went by the main Udon Thani Municipality office this morning, 9:15, to get a pink ID card. Five minute wait, in and out in 25 minutes!
I didn't think I needed the card, but my wife insisted...
Interestingly, her name on her Thai ID card is spelled in English, but my name on my pink card is spelled only in Thai. Who can figure(?)

Forum Members: I was on an 8 day trip with my lovely lady. Spent 2 nights in hotels in the following places: Pattaya, Laem Mae pim, Laem Sing, and Kho Chang. I used my pink ID card to register at the Hotels and at police check points. It was gladly accepted as my ID everywhere I went. No one batted an eye. I did have my Passport with me but never used it.

I have my pink ID card and I've been using it while I've been travelling, every hotel accepted it as valid ID, none of them asked for my passport so I think it's worth having just for that. It also got me cheap entry into Korat Zoo so I got my 60 baht back too.
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

Yellow Book and now Thai ID Card ( Pink)
Went to the Muang Udon Thani District Office today to get the ID-Card but the lady at the information started waving my yellow book and said (I think) that I should go to the same place as to where I got the yellow book and she pointed in the direction of the Municipality (the highrise building). I went there and most of the ladies there were just giggeling but finally one took me out in the corrider and and pointed and said "next building". Coming downstairs I discover that the next building is a 7-eleven and the next to that is the Naga Hotel? I gave up for today.
Could anyone point me in the right direction. I belong to Muang Udon and I suspect the first lade there was wrong. I went into the big doors that was straight ahead from the gates but maybe I should have gone to any of the other offices to the left or to the right?

She was correct.
if you come out the back door of the 7-11 you will be in the car park of the Office where you get your yellow book.
It is opposite the Naga Hotel.
If you came out the Naga hotel walk straight across the road go into the 7-11 come out the back door turn left & the entrance to the office is 10 meters away.
Make sure you go to the correct department for yellow books.

Thank you pal52. Had I only taken a few steps closer to the 7-11 I would have seen it but since I had parked in the other direction I just turned around and therefore missed it (and "next building" also was a bit misleadning. Went there this morning and was finished within 10 minutes, very friendly staff.
