Yessir, and then I'll have to read about it in the Thai newspapers
describing how retired farang mafia are causing such disturbance in
the community, with their reckless ways, eager to fight all comers.
Cali,

You could not be further from the truth, the NM meetings, are without doubt, are the most friendly gatherings of multi nationals you could possibly encounter, yes, there is a lot of banter & lighthearted p4ss taking, but in over a year of attending, I have never seen a resemblance of a confrontation.

It's a knee jerk reaction most of the time. I saw a few aggressive e-mails when I worked on the Project Teams at the Ministry of Defence, people using their rank to coerce you into doing something. Rather than send something aggressive back that would have made the situation worse, I stepped away for a couple of hours and calmed down before sending a reply. It helped your argument later on if the situation went pear shaped.

I used to work in and around East end London.Threatening behaviour was rife.
Yeah, I reckon you're right. That's why it doesn't bother me because it's normally a drunken old chap sat behind the monitor venting his frustrations. Plus the fact that I gave up the booze over three years ago now.

The people I've got to watch out for are the drunks in town who get in your face. Doubtless I'll see a couple of them when I'm out tonight. :fryingpan:

It's an interesting perspective; being sober and watching p*ss 'eads getting shirty because they think they're hard.

Yeah, you did have a rough ride of it, what with accusations of being a Troll and all. But I recommend you stick around because there are blokes here who know what they're talking about.

Ohh Richard are you still going on about having a bit of a rough ride, if you look back at your forum questions you did get answers/help one way or another, surely thats what you was looking for.. isn't it.?..and you are right other forums are not like this one, this is far better, and lets face it its the best one you are going to get thats in the heart of Issan....we have had new members trying to locate a certain village with not entirely the correct name, i personally like these ones and have spent hours trying to locate the right place for them, also several people joined just to search a long lost family member and help has been at hand...don't think you could get a more helpful forum.

Richard, didn't you get enough feedback from us?Do with it what you want, but shouldn't blame us if it wasn't what you wanted hear or call us GG's!!

I don't know if you are ''geriatric'' or not,but someday you will be!I don't see how you will escape being a GG,since you are already ''groaning'' about us!

Don't you just love it when ''rock throwers''complain about ''rock throwing''?

I think your statement about ''staying to myself'',pretty well sums up the majority of personalities here, except for nights out drinking or until you need to have an understandable joke or conversation, then you will need us!

It is always been my experience that those that spent most of their time with themselves, are the ones that need the most ''assistance''when they venture away from their tiny World!Maybe that is why the forum gets so much action

I think you will fit in,as soon as you make a NM meeting

like I said I am a rock thrower when some one pisses me off and insults my wife or my Honor or calls me stupid I hate that name. but I look at rock throwers in two categories 1 are they keyboard/monitor
tough guys 2 rock thrower who will say it to your face. That makes a world of difference
I can honestly say all the people I met at the N/M will not throw rocks behind a keyboard they will tell it to your face So IMO it only the keyboard/monitor hero that causes the problems because they are unknown and hide behind a name no one knows and post insulting remarks toward members or the whole group with B/S

Got to agree with you there, aznyron. There are definitely two types.

OH I think we all retreat to the cave from time to time nothing to be worried about. Sometimes it's simply the best thing to do. You got a serious question try again. If it's worth it to you PM the guys and more then likely you will get a serious answer not a joke.

But always remember sometimes the answers will really not be what you want to hear, but thye will be the truth BM is one of the biggest jokers here, he is also a I guy who will give solid answers if you just PM him.

Stan is another and I could on and on.

Most of the time guy are just goofing around sometimes there is micommunication. But there is a wealth of knowledge here. Use the Pm if the forum is getting to you, you will get your answers.

Maybe it's more complex than just classifying the types of poster as some may never post for ages, just quietly browsing for whatever they need. Then, fortified with the conviction that they can be 'one of the boys' they post only to have a new arsehole torn for them, treated with condescension or held up to ridicule.

Maybe some people who are challenged in the normal social skills take it badly when the forum smart-arses hog their thread with non sequiturs, quick wit and dazzling instant repartee. Then there are those that consider name calling as just another ugly form of bullying. These people were either taught this by good parents or more regrettably, learned this from being bullied. Of course violence, implied or otherwise, like in real life, has no place on forums. Those that argue this are probably unaware that they are still being bullies.

Thus it may be more important to consider what different members get from this and other forum memberships. Be it support, camaraderie, a cyber old boys club, a help desk, social network, a lifeline, a guide, a lifestyle guide, we have to appreciate that we are all different people with very unique needs.

Having said that, it is only an internet forum and maybe just a slightly distorted, somewhat tainted reflection on what expatriate life is really like in Udon and the surrounding shires. Like real life, it has it's nice bits and it's nonsense bits so, as in real life, having a thick skin, keeping an open mind and respecting the fact that we may not all share or even like each others opinions is usually sufficient.

Beer monkey, now i cant stop laughing, again you and bkkstan have missed my point, which is exactly want is wrong with this site.Yes i did get some helpfull advice, but most who replied used it as a way to try and make themselves sound important.I have worked with all sorts in my life, hard working, hard drinking Paddies,Blacks , wind up merchants,Poofs,
you name it ive met em,and yes ,i have learnt to take a joke.Yes the site does give some useful information, but there is an underlying trend with a lot of the members on here,to portray themselves as gods gift.Well i make no attempt to be somethink im not, just an ordinery hard working guy,who was looking to make my move to Udon as smooth as possible.I have always taken all replies with the view of learning from them, but name calling is childish,so if others have been threatened, then unless its condemed by the other members, then be like me ,dont post anymore.
