this is way too coincidental, went to new lotus today, and saw a black dude shopping, too funny. i've only seen one guy previous, maybe 2 times in 9 years, so maybe a part timer here, besides the rare tourist or military crew. go figure.

I understand where your serious question is coming from, though. It's possible to present several explanations and debate whether or not it's fair. All of which nets to:

It all depends on the audience, context, and tone.

It's like saying "f*** you". There must be hundreds of different ways of saying it and an equal or more number of ways people will/can interpret it.

With the right audience, context, and tone, no excuse for off-color humor ( ding!) is required. Certainly not in my company provided that we are familiar enough and said humor is not projected in such a way that it would embarrass or degrade me if others outside our party should happen to be listening. I think that's true for anyone unless they are really thin-skinned or having a crappy day already.
