From the UK transferring more than £10,000 is a real pain due to money laundering concerns.
Anything over that amount & the Bank has to report it to the authorities, hence they are reluctant to do it.
So they do everything to discourage you.
Of course the fact that if you have to transfer 3*£10K the banks charge more than 1*£30K has nothing to do with it..
As most of the money laundering legislation was created in the USA I imagine that it will be the same from there..

I have yet to find a machine that gives you a good ex. rate and not charge 150B for a non Thai card. Would be grateful to know where there is one. I have tried all the machines stated here and yet to find one. I am not complaining about this, just stating my views.
Myself I use a offshore British bank and transfer my pensions out here each month to my Thai bank, in GBP, and am a happy chappy.
The one I usually us is on the 3rd floor at Central Plaza all by itself, not far from the escalator and near the restroom (toilet)entrance. That's the best I can describe it. I have used a couple others there but I can't really say where.
As another person wrote, and I'm almost certain it's true, the bank you have the account at that gave you the card determines the rate. I think the fee is charges by the card company(Visa/ MC) . The bank that puts the machine there may get a payment from the merchants for providing the machine so people can withdraw money nearby to spend. In a mall that would be a very small amount per merchant. Or they could charge a bank to put the machine there and then the bank charges a fee to use the machine.
I'm just providing what I feel are reasonable possibilities along with my experience in using the machines. I'm not really more knowledgeable that this.

I use a debit card. Credit cards may have other fees. I don't know about those. If I wrote credit card somewhere here, I made a mistake. I meant a debit card.

The ATM on the 3rd floor is an Aeon machine so no 150 baht surcharge. Other Aeon machines are found at Big C and Tesco. Your card provider will charge fees - what these fees are vary from card to card but for UK cards can include 3 different fees - a MC/Visa exchange rate fee (0.7% approx), a card usage fee (zero to a couple of pounds) and an issuing bank commission fee of zero to 3%, Read the small print; you cannot avoid the MC/Visa charge (well i haven't found out how to) but it is possible to avoid the others. By using the right ATM's and the right card you can cut the cost of a 10,000 baht withdrawal by up to 5%.

As I've explained on several previous posts there are no need to incur any charges when transferring money from UK with a debit card. Step 1> take your debit card into the bank (with passport) and draw you money out over the counter.
Step 2 > As you are often in UK apply for a Norwich & Peterborough Classic Gold Debit card. (Look on web). I have used this for several years and never been charged a penny or even a baht. The exchange rate is good (TT). I have also used the Aeon machines without charge
