One-Two-Go 747 at Udon Thani Airport

Post by lee » August 21, 2009, 11:02 am

Yesterday I visited Udon's airport and noticed an old One-two-go 747 parked up next to the terminal. Two of its engines were missing and the whole aircraft looked very shabby.
One-Two-Go no longer fly to Udon so I was wondering what it was doing here. I wouldn't have thought Udon was the best place to service a 747 or its jet engines. Maybe its being scrapped and used for training purposes. :-k

I suspect they were actually flying to Kunming (China), and just landed at the wrong airport.

The missing engines is just a fuel saving measure.

Still there this late morning having done my weekly posting at Thailand post in the airport. The plane looks bloody awful, maybe someone complained they were making swampy look shabby so have sent one to each of the airports that can handle a 747 plane.

What a shame. I worked for Boeing in the sixties for a few years. Did some design work on the escape chutes and the tail fin. Witnessed the first flight of the big bird at Boeing field. What a thrill that was. Shame to see them headed for the scrap heap, another casualty of our disposable society. But that's progress...isn't it?. :-k

If the old girl stays much longer, there will be hamocks and laundry swinging under the wings, bamboo ladders up to the hatches, and a karaoke joint blasting from the cabin. Hmmm, what could they do with the upper deck area?

Maybe it's cheaper for Khun One-2-Go to leave his 747 at UTH rather than BKK and the runway was long enough for them to fly it in. The engines are either broken or have been robbed to service another aircraft...or they've sold them.

All supposition of course. Is there anything in the newspapers about the airline, they had some jets up for sale recently didn't they (MD-80s)? Maybe they can't afford to run it.

What's the tail number of the 747? :-k

Don't know how many they have but seen them at Don Muang many times over the years. Always looked forlorn and unkempt. Wouldn't get me in one for quids, their condition was the main reason 1 2 Go was banned out of many international destinations.

BTW that looks like a 300 series with the extended upper deck so it's reasonably old, the last was delivered in 1990.

When I quickly read the OP on this, I thought it was saying that someone had seen 747Man (Alan) parked up and looking shabby at Udon airport after arriving on a One-Two-Go flight! ;) Heaven forbid.

Poor 747man,what a dreadful week for him....

1.Everton lose at home to Arsenal 6-1.
2.Bottom of the Udon Fantasy League.
3.Now rumoured to be in an ageing shabby state at Udon Airport !

Things can only get better 8)

Saw the aircraft land around midday 14th August, all engines running, it originally parked opposite end to where it is parked now. A close inspection saw two of the engines in poor condition.

I believe it was a diversion in and the passengers were taken to Bangkok on a extra Thai airways flight that departed the day it arrived.

They currently have 10 B747s but I believe only 5 fly, incidentally there are a number of DC-9s parked up at Don Mueang airport most engineless also belonging to 1 to go !!

Didn't fly for very long with Garuda did it.

Always a shame to see aircraft robbed and unkempt.

Appears that this site could need an update, they are saying the whole fleet is in storage? Could have been a result of the Phuket accident? Certainly confuses the likes of me.

Looks like they used Phitsanulok as their primary dumping ground anyway so lettigger may be right, major repairs needed. Another reason to give em a wide berth. [-(

Quote from the latest press release on the "List of airlines banned within the EU":
Significant improvements and accomplishments of the Indonesian civil aviation authority are recognised in the area of safety.

Since the imposition of the ban in July 2007, four air carriers – Garuda Indonesia, Airfast Indonesia, Mandala Airlines and Premiair can be taken off the list, because their authority ensures that they respect the international safety standards.

The Thai carrier One Two Go has been removed from the list as its certificate has been revoked by the Thai aviation authorities.

Let's see. You get some investors to chip in, get a lone from a bank, buy some planes and start up an airline. Keep them flying with duct tape and bailing wire and pocket the money that was ment for maintainence. When the planes can't fliy anymore and your banned from airports, you take the money and let the company go into receivership. That about how it works?
