I couldn't believe it yesterday on the other side of the bridge, waiting to return to Nong Khai from Lao.

Trying to get in the door of the bus was like something I have never seen before - I and lived some time in China, where I thought the world's best queue jumpers all reside.

I was within half a meter of the steps, and at least 8 or 10 more pushed in front of me - I suspect they were mainly Laos, but hard for me to tell. I was even holding out my arm to give the ticket to the collector guy, and some little pr1ck pushed my arm out of the way, and scrambled aboard ahead of me.

Not really, infact not long back we were in Macro and had a full trolley of stuff and my Wife realised she didn't have her card on her. The Lady behind us over heard the problem and offered us her card so we could get the stuff with the discounts on them. I thought it was very nice of her :D

Its refreshing to hear a story like that Aardvark. Too often its negative stories that get posted.

As for Martynsnowman's encounter, perhaps there could have been a more Thai-like response, other than just ignoring it (which probably would have been wiser because you never really know who you are ticking off.) Just my opinion.

No disrespect to the older people but i fing OAPs the worst offenders they seem to think because there old they can just push infront of people and the 1s in the electric buggys are the worst .

Not much different in Tesco in UK when the end of day discount stickers go on. Old ladies and couples barge in in front of you to get them. So far i have resisted the temptation to kick, punch and bite my way to the front. But one day i will be a pensioner too and then no holds barred! :D Anyway, ready for Udon manners it would seem.

Wow! How impressive!

Has it crossed your mind that it might have been just a misunderstanding, or that queue-jumping occurs all over the world and isn't a Thai invention?

IN GENERAL I've found Thai people to be more tolerant, polite and respectful towards foreigners than people in PARIS, New York, Amsterdam, London, etc. etc.

Just MY 2 bahts.

Here you are referring to capital cities - where a large proportion of the population are actual foreign. Go to any other English city & try queue jumping & you will not try it again... :D The British have a huge believe in queuing. It is an abhorrence to queue jump. If anyone attempted to do it to me in UK I would make a major fuss about it. If they were served in front of me I would demand to see the manager & register my complaint. Thai's are just plain rude & have no conception of queueing - just go into any 7/11.... :(

I used the cities mentioned metaphorically. Not as an actual comparison between those cities and Udon. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pars_pro_toto). Moreover, I didn't mention them to compare queue-jumping but the general attitude towards foreigners.

Besides, if you feel it is not a Thai custom, why do you want to impose it upon them? When in Rome ...

I ran into a girl who tried to jump a queue to get a queue ticket! I was at Bangkok Bank main office yesterday and just stepped up to the machine that spits out queue tickets. Was only there a few seconds trying to decide which button to push (I was there to get a new savings book) and a girl stepped around to the other side of the machine with her back to the wall and started reaching OVER the machine to get a ticket. I growled "wait a minute" which she must have understood because she stopped until I pushed my button.

I went upstairs and there wasn't even a frigging line so no waiting. Went right up to a desk and got taken care of. Sort of. The lady at the desk stopped halfway through taking care of me and went to lunch. She picked up all of my stuff (passport, old bank book, new bank book, ATM card) and dropped it all off on a co-worker's desk so wife and I waited again while new guy brought up all of the info on his computer. Yeah, I know. Mai phen rai and jai yen.

I was in the Complek waiting at the KFC ice cream stand then someone pushed in in front of me and they started to serve them before me....so i got them in a headlock and started to 'Knuckle' them on the head.....then got them with several upper cuts and grabbed the ice cream and pushed it into their face then flicked their nose and gave them a 'chinese burn' they won't forget.....ain't no 7 year old girl gonna push in front of ME..!!!

Don't think i would of pushed their trolley like that....jai yen jai yen..even in UK that sort of thing can end in disaster now-a-days.....My Mrs would have said something to them before anything like that went on...let them deal with it.....let her push the trolley away.......

Jet Jiffy have been ok about Q jumpers in the past....they have muttered something to the pusher-in'ers and served me instead, happened several times too.....

I was at Don Muang back when it was BKK. I was in line to get my passport exit stamp. Had a couple people ahead of me when an Arab man in his white dress and all and his group walked up and got in front. I said, "Sir, you need to go to the back of the line and wait your turn like everyone else." He just looked around like no one else was around. A few minutes later, Thai immigration police came and escorted the man and his group away. When I got up to the counter, the officer said, "Arab wait in room for fright. Not come back Thailand." [-X

Sounds good to me. =D>

Hasn't happened to me in a long time and the last 2 attempts were stopped by efficient staff.

1. In Tops I was behind a Thai lady and a Thai man with a friend brushed by me and dumped his goods down. The lady went off and the Thai man gestured with his finger to add up his stuff. The Tops lady didn't ignore him but she seemed to give him a right dressing down then turned to me and served me. He didn't look so cool. I gave him my f**k you look...Image

2. In Boots again behind a Thai lady, she finished and a Thai man reached across me to put his goods down in front of me. The girl took them from him and put them down in front of her and served me anyway. I gave him my f**k you look...Image

I was at the qartar desk at Doha last year trying to get them to book me into a Hotel because i had a 10hr wait for my flight back to the uk. Because i was cattle class i had to wait in the airport. When i was trying to be diplomatic this fat stinking arab and his wive's came to the desk and started pushing me out of the way didnt even look at me so in the best traditon i said Eh mate whats the score here, pointing at the back of the Q and said where i live mate you wait your turn, at this point the qatar staff ushered me away. When i got back to the uk i complained about there treatment at Doha never even got an appology. Arabs 1 England 0. same when getting out of the airport bus at the plane the arabs try and get past you on the steps to the plane, but now i simply put both my arms out so there fat wives dont get past.
